Building Bridges and River redux…

So life has been pretty shitty, so I’ve not been very motivated recently, doing little bits as the mojo allowed. Should have finished these much earlier, but hey… done now.

So, I wanted to add some bridges to the river I’d previously made, which of course would mean failing to match the colour of the water and I’d end up doing them all again, again. That also allowed me to try something inspired by a couple of excellent examples on the Lead Adventure Forum.

First off, a stone bridge, the intention being with this to suggest that the river is wide, wide enough to allow river barges/long boats to use the dock section. A planned boat will open up that corner of the board as necessary.

Without the dock section, there’s room for the mill section. It took a while to match the colour of the dirt road to the dirt going over the bridge, but it got there.

I also did a smaller wooden foot bridge, a bit rickety and meant to imply a narrower river. The section is the same width as the stone bridge so it all fits in the same space.

As it joins the same spot as the mill section, so again can go either side or without the mill completely.

And the original sections got a repaint to a more natural looking murk, and I added some new bull rushes I’d had for a while for this intention. The original “grass” rushes are still there, they are reasonably rigid and I’m hoping they will deflect any damage to the lovely detailed bull rushes.

More Market Stalls

Some more market stalls, first a butchers…

The wooden boards allow me to add ground items, boxes etc, but I reckon work to represent the various market lots available, so I’ll add a couple of empty ones I think to represent empty lots. The butcher set is from Iron Gate Scenery, I added an extra board to table so it matched the width of the other tables and added some more steaks and sausages so it wasn’t empty space. The box of eggs is from a different IGS set. Sausages, black pudding & random apple from greenstuff.

The second lot has the IGS ribs and carcasses, hanging frame from plasticard, butchers block from balsa. Slop bucket from the 3D printed stuff that supplied the wicker baskets, offcuts inside from greenstuff.
I had intended to add a dog in the space under the table, but have changed my mind…

The locals needed to improve their diet, so I added a second veg stall using IGS bits. I removed the basket of berries and added a box of berries so the wicker and box items mixed better. An empty box was added under the table and some new loose veg on top.

The second stall is turnips and beans (greenstuff using the empty wicker baskets), more loose carrots, bag of apples from I don’t remember where, potatoes from IGS, the cabbages are what I assumed to be melons from IGS with some gs leaves (melons being a tricky grower in the 1600’s). Dressed with more fennel bits from the Etsy set, gs apples and more berries.

Next, a tailor. All from scratch. Balsa central boards and strips of paper wrapped around them. Shears from plasticard, a little big, but will do.

The trough is from a set of garden veg from Temu. Gardens to follow at some point. A close up:

Market Hall WIP 5

And timbers and plaster done - well barring a bit of a dry brush and any touch ups. It doesn’t match the older buildings, but then none of those paints exist anymore so I had to try closest matches. But then some variety doesn’t hurt either.

Tiles to do, but for now think I may change tack a bit and do something a bit different. Quite happy with this though, the doors work well.

the Da Vinci tank…

I realised I’d not taken pictures of the Da Vinci tank since I’d finished it, so as Leonardo was out…

An Egyptian gentleman honestly…

Another pseudo Renaissance adventurer, in the form of Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, an Egyptian despite the accent… a 3D print from Etsy, I had to add the feather myself, it would have been too brittle in the printed resin, so after a few attempts ended up just cutting a feather shape from plasticard. Attempted to paint it as a peacock feather, got fed up and painted it green.

A Cunning Pair…

Next up from the pile… Some familiar Elizabethan types, again hopefully for Dragon Rampant, Five Leagues, Mordheim etc… minis are from The Assault Group, they come with a Percy but I don’t have much use for him.

Leonardo Acropolis

Going through the lead pile with a smattering of stuff I’d gathered for a vague Dragon Rampant force, kind of Tilea/Empire adjacent. The whole lot will be useable for Five Leagues From The Borderlands and Mordheim/Frostgrave as well.

First up, the “wizard”, an older Da Vinci from Antediluvian Miniatures. Others from the same pack are pending.

More British for The Silver Bayonet

Couple more options for the British roster, a junior officer and a light cavalryman. No interest in painting another horse.

The junior officer is from Warlord. I got it from eBay and turns out it’s only available as part of an army bundle. A nice, quirky model.

The cavalryman is from Perry. Unlike the Perry French they don’t do a dismounted sprue, so had to get one of the metal ones. I picked up a single sprue for the cavalryman and modified one of the French horses, so the bedroll looked more like the British one, the rest I put down to looted gear.

CD bases

So, November got away from me. Some more Silver Bayonet figures on the horizon, just need to varnish. In the meantime, a recent post on the Silver Bayonet Facebook page reminded me I did a load of CD scatter terrain a while back and never shared it. I’ve added a tag of CD Bases to old posts just to highlight them. These are mainly standard CDs, with the very last of the mini CDs I had stashed.

Rocks are tree bark from Geek Gaming Scenics, with some spiral carved rocks from Fenris Games. A slightly modified (it was a miscast freebie from the ever generous Ian) mausoleum is also from Fenris Games. Other scatter is intended to give a more blasted heath feel, with slight dirt uplifts and broken ground. I cut back on the flowers for those ones. Anyway, photo dump…

Sci-fi City Block WIP 2

So… yeah, bigger than planned, but I’m liking it. Feels right. Hope the paint job feels as right. Planning on setting specific magnetised signs and statues to keep it flexible.

Sci-fi urban tiles

A change of pace, some modular tiles intended for Judge Dredd primarily, but will be pretty generic. Utilising the Kill-Team friendly tiles from Fire Dragon Games. I have a set of four, but space means I can only really work on one at a time.

The tile texture is scribed into foam-pvc in 20mm squares. The big step was cutting the hole in the foam insert, but it’s worked so far. It theoretically will house inserts for an airlock, an industrial grinder, a sump pool and just blank tiles. The odd grey tile is from the Maelstrom’s Edge terrain sprue, which was happily a 20mm square.
