Goblins

Oathmark Goblins - a mashup of the Goblin Infantry and the Goblin Slaves sprues. Took an age with the green stuff, but the fur especially came out nicely, but was very laborious, so cloth mantles for the majority.

Five Leagues needs 14 melee, 3 missile and 3 different leader types. I’ve more than enough, in fact enough to run 3x 6 figured infantry units for Dragon Rampant. Job done.

As well as the three leader types (no shields), I had a body left over so went for a shaman type, using bit from the GW skull sprue. Some feathers from the Chaos Death Parrot, but otherwise a few different shades of black.

These two are my favourites… love how they came out.

Some Renaissance dogsbodies…

After Baldrick, I was quite taken with the idea of a load of servants and dogsbodies accompanying any of the fantasy Renaissance adventurers. This chap is from the Assault Group, part of a cannon crew, with the addition of a clay pipe from plasticard rod. I think he’s supposed to have a ramrod, but it makes for a nice gesture mid conversation with the pipe.

The Antediluvian Minis range of fantasy conquistadors offers another wayward servant with a thieving halfling. The idol from Raiders of the Lost Ark is a nice touch.

Wallpaper streets

Wallpaper again - but a decent result. Well I committed. This was an Easter weekend project, posting now though as real things got very real for a bit there.

Anyhoo, this is Seriano Pietra Wallpaper, from here: https://ukwallpaper.co.uk/products/seriano-pietra-wallpaper-silver-1102.html

Although looking at the picture on the site, it doesn’t look like what I have. But works. It used to be available from B&Q for about the same price, so £2 a metre or so. It could be done cheaper, but wouldn’t look as nice and I don’t want to waste time with individual cobbles or anything like that. But it works and isn’t in the £100 plus range of some really good embossed wallpapers. I finally got round to covering the reverse side of my skirmish board. I couldn’t match the pattern for the life of me, so added a gutter and manhole to avoid that. Works for me and an underground access point could be interesting for scenarios. If I ever have the space for a proper sized table, I’ve plenty to spare.

Market Hall finished - more or less

Finished Market Hall - well pretty much finished. Anything else will just be furniture and not bolted down.

Windows added. One day I will add them before any painting as they are a bloody pain and if you look closely some are bent and very knackered looking as I forced them in place.

I added a pamphlet about trials to the outer landing as that seemed apt.

There is also an odd dead space above the outer stairs, so a Crooked Dice chest fills that nicely.

Colonel Bills Elizabethan Border Reivers

I was very kindly sent some samples for Colonel Bills new range of Border Reivers as I was curious how they scaled up.

I’d heard that the Flags of War Reivers were a bit big compared to most historicals, but that’s not the case here:

The photo is awful, but my desk is full of market hall bits at the moment. But, Antediluvian conquistador, Colonel Bills Reiver, TAG Elizabethan gent, Colonel Bills Reiver. Lovely figures and I will be getting more at some point.

Market Hall WIP 1

Some pimping begins… managed to track down a 4ground market hall at a similar price to when it was in production, so it needs to be brought up to match my other 4ground stuff… interiors textured and a little balsa for the door and window lintels for a bit of depth. Need a lot of balsa to start the timbers externally so just tarted the door to the cell.

Other pics of my older 4ground buildings can be found here, here and here

Would be nice if some picked them up to continue the line…

More Renaissance types

Three more Renaissance types. The first two are from Antediluvian Miniatures and the last one from The Assault Group. I tried to follow the painted examples by Antediluvian and the learned chaps wear black vibe just extended to Machiavelli (if memory serves)…

the Da Vinci tank…

I realised I’d not taken pictures of the Da Vinci tank since I’d finished it, so as Leonardo was out…

An Egyptian gentleman honestly…

Another pseudo Renaissance adventurer, in the form of Juan Sánchez-Villalobos Ramírez, an Egyptian despite the accent… a 3D print from Etsy, I had to add the feather myself, it would have been too brittle in the printed resin, so after a few attempts ended up just cutting a feather shape from plasticard. Attempted to paint it as a peacock feather, got fed up and painted it green.

A Cunning Pair…

Next up from the pile… Some familiar Elizabethan types, again hopefully for Dragon Rampant, Five Leagues, Mordheim etc… minis are from The Assault Group, they come with a Percy but I don’t have much use for him.

Leonardo Acropolis

Going through the lead pile with a smattering of stuff I’d gathered for a vague Dragon Rampant force, kind of Tilea/Empire adjacent. The whole lot will be useable for Five Leagues From The Borderlands and Mordheim/Frostgrave as well.

First up, the “wizard”, an older Da Vinci from Antediluvian Miniatures. Others from the same pack are pending.

Barnstorming...

and the cart store/barn - another Blotz kit, I only used the provided beams for the front because - arches... the other sides I did with balsa as usual.. the Blotz beams are serviceable, but they just differ too much from my other buildings... I did try them, but end up stripping them and redoing it all. I tried the brick pattern for the lower panels as well, but I just didn't like the look, so liquid g/s over those bits.

rooftiles and spare wheel from Warbases.co.uk, pick axe from I honestly don't remember (came on a sprue with a shovel, sledge hammer and a hoe), the hook was just balsa and plastic rod... just a little bit of something to tart the inside of an otherwise simple building...

Miller Time (new pics)...

[OK, since I moved house, I've not done any photos of stuff and discovered last week that my new place isn't blessed for lighting like my old place was (skylight and sloped white roof to reflect an anglepoise), so treated myself to a new lightbox, with a built in LED strip, nice and bright, but I need to keep tinkering with my camera I think - anyhoo newer better pics below...]

Finally, here is the watermill...

I added a dovecote to the front wall to cover the expanse of wall without any real feature. Quite happy with it, although it's not that clear. I'll have to redo these pics at some point.

The millstones, cogs and bits are all scratchbuilt, the stairs are from Fenris Games.

The grain sacks are from Ainsty Castings Trade Goods range.

And it connects nicely within the existing river sections. The angled corner eliminates an awkward angle that was created by the adjoining river bank section. In fact I managed to match up the new bit to stuff done 4-5 years ago quite nicely even if I say so myself, but then managed to kill everything when I added gloss to all the pieces... so I had to do some remedial work to rescue them. You can see if you really examine it, but for now, it works for me.
