Zen, this is more than a heapin' helpin'. This is the complete run from Charlton comics (assuming all issues are as listed. Don't know when I'll DL, maybe while LOST is on tonight.)
Scanning the GCD quickly I see Jim Aparo drew many early issues. There's a few Ditko shorts in there. I remember Don Newton drew a lot of the later ones before he, like Aparo, moved on to draw Batman for DC.

The GCD says #29 was only published overseas! But they don't tell us who published it.
I did not find info on #29 but I did find this interesting article about the Phantom's creator Lee Falk

Good grief, this is so full of win. I don't know if you guys get told this enough, but you're doing the Comic Book Gods' work, my friends.
Thank you so much for everything!
I'm now going to kill a few days reading Phantom comics!
Reis - your welcome man
Mark - once again bravo my friend great info
I rather believe that issue #29 was never released anywhere. As said on the "www.deepwwods.org" reference site, from the King label the comic was "picked up again over a year later by Charlton Press and continued with the same numbering sequence but skipped #29 and began with #30".
In the issue #30, the story “The Secret of the Golden Ransom” was drawn by Sal Trapani and the story “The Living Legend” by Frank McLaughlin.
Many thanks for all your posts.
It certainly would not surprise me if Charlton just skipped #29. They never seemed that concerned about properly numbering comic books.
The article Alain quotes is here (the web address had a typo)
