Raistlin, I really hope you will organize more compos like this in the future. It was so much fun and such a great experience! I got to revisit and rework parts and assets I have been sitting on for years for demo parts, things like animation elements and low-tile stuff and now could alter, reuse and make new ones for these entries.
I had Trident on my side, and wow, the man and great friend was absolutely rock-solid. I asked if he could create the .prg files for me, and he was totally up for it. He found it just as fun as I did!
I never actually had the release .prg files myself, because we both knew I would probably have released everything within a week if I did! So he took charge, kept me in check and handled all the releases. We had six amazing weeks of pure fun, and honestly, it was just a fantastic experience for me.
I am really proud of winning the HiRes category, and for all of my entries!
Thank you so much for voting on my precious ones.
PS: congratulations to all others also, this was a very cool compo.

"I voted on all entries except my own ones. I based my votes on how I would want each to be ranked within the compo itself, not as general CSDB or C64GFX ratings, my star scores reflect their place relative to the other compo entries in this compo only - if that makes sense?"
This is exactly how it should be in compos - and another reason that I like to keep the voting system separate to CSDb. In too many compos, people have been using the CSDb vote system .. and then we end up with people giving 10s for "tiny petscii" entries which might not compare at all to full-blown full-screen images... compo votes should be totally independent IMO. |

"Note also: people told me in the past things like “I never vote on my own stuff”, “it’s not fair to vote on compos you’ve entered yourself”, “I never downvote”, etc etc. All turned out to be total bullshit ;-)"
Haha =) |

Voting on your own stuff… hmm. Totally up to you. There’s no rule against it… and we’re not discounting anyone’s votes. But votes will be made public after the compo - so if anyone did anything “nasty” (eg. 1s for everyone else, 10s for their own work) then it would be visible for all.
Note also: people told me in the past things like “I never vote on my own stuff”, “it’s not fair to vote on compos you’ve entered yourself”, “I never downvote”, etc etc. All turned out to be total bullshit ;-)
Do what you feel happy with. |

| @Guinea_pig: I am not familiar enough with compos to know what's considered OK or not, so here's my $0.02: I did vote for every entry, including my own. I think that it's difficult or impossible to be 100% objective, but to me, it only makes sense to either vote for all entries, or to not vote at all. </$0.02> |

| Is there some other place I should be asking questuons? It's seems I'm breaking some unspoken social code, but I really donn't see another place. |
User Comment Submitted by Guinea_pig on 3 July 2025
| Is there any guidance on voting for myself? I don't give all my stuff 10s or 9s, but I also don't know if I should be ranking my stuff. I might be rating it too high just because a piece took me more time and effort than it looks. |

jmin: everyone’s votes are hidden until the voting period is over - to hopefully reduce the wish for people to up/down vote as there’s less the wish to “sculpt” the results.
I would say that everyone should just vote how they wish. Don’t up or down vote… just vote honestly based on your own feeling. |

Voting is tough :|
There are quite a few fantastic 10/10 pics in there which at the same time aren't really "logos" and thus definitely not a 10/10 in (at least my) compo-voting context, but quite the opposite, so the big question is: skip or "downvote", whereby the first means pushing them while the latter feels more corrective ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Pretty sure I'm gonna change my votes over & over again during the next two weeks. |

We’re at around 112 entries so far and into the final 2 days! If you’ve been holding off, now’s the time to enter :-)
https://c64gfx.com/compo/3517
Please also be sure to register at C64GFX if you wish to vote! Everyone can vote - but votes will only be counted from genuine sceners (to avoid cheating as best we can). |

We're into the last 3-4 weeks of the compo now! See all the current entries here: https://c64gfx.com/compo/3517
And.. if you'd like to vote.. make sure you're registered on C64GFX.com and verified! Voting will be in the first 2 weeks of July.
Note: voting is separate to the "like" system that we have across the whole website. Voting will be done using stars-out-of-10 and will only become visible on July 1st! |

Just to remind everyone, you can see all the current entries for this compo here: https://c64gfx.com/compo/3517
But, also, if you would like to vote in the compo (voting begins once the deadline for entries is over), you need to be a registered and verified C64GFX user. Voting's really modern and slick, you can vote on ALL releases within minutes (no nasty back-and-forth between pages). |

| If an entry of mine is deemed "Out of Compo" (which is totally fine, btw--helps me figure out where the rule edge cases are) may I submit more entries that conform to the rules? |
User Comment Submitted by Raistlin on 3 April 2025
| Nb. In my original post I mentioned that you could use CharPad or Pixcen to count chars… later removed from the rules section completely. The tool we’ll be using, when needed, will be PNG2PRG. Unless the PRG supplied already meets requirements - many last year were “valid” char-mode graphics but the displayer used was showing them in Koala/bitmap mode. Those all qualified. |

| @Katon: for sure, so long as it’s not already released/published by anyone (including those pesky preservers) :-) |
User Comment Submitted by Katon on 2 April 2025
| Is it possible to publish in this competition a logo painted in 1996, which has been lying on a floppy disk for 29 years and has not been published anywhere? |
User Comment Submitted by Raistlin on 2 April 2025
| One more: mimicking of brand logos is ok. |
