Cthulhu bust

After 39.M Csaba was done the plan was to work on some more hungarian armor. But since these models are pretty cute I wanted to make them even cooler - by adding the crew. Lucky for me Warlord released hungarian tank crew set which can be used on vehicles remaining in the pile of shame and to replace original german officer running the Hetzer.

Since I was waiting to get the crew anyway, decision was made to splash some paint on other piece of resin chunk waiting on the very bottom of Ye Bucket. It's old Cthulhu bust. The idea to get it done was spawned, because recently I started reading some Call of Cthulhu RPG materials and having good time reading those spooky stories and scenarios. The model cannot help with potencial gaming (both RPG and miniatures) but it might be nice background for taking photos of adventurers or cursed Dagon cultists. It also can be used as office decoration or as melee weapon (that wooden base should easily crush any skull).

As for painting - I wouldn't even think about it without having an airbrush ready for action. Sadly lots of parts are really hard to get (not only for painting but also for cleaning mould lines) so I had to hide these flaws in deeper shadows, properly taken pictures and hobby cheats like that. Original base was resin cast of wooden block, but IMO it wasn't big enough for such a model so I got something bit larger (proper wood this time).

Any conclusion?
It was huge pain in the ass to paint but I'm glad having one more piece painted. It's always nice feeling having another model saved from the jar of shame (one of few jars actually). This one was eating lots of precious storage space. Hope you like it anyway 🦑

Already in the office - temporarly. Will be guarding the papers until I find better place for the piece:

Alien handmaiden (Crooked Dice)

So it finally happened:
last Saturday night we have finally managed to play Call of Cthulhu role-playing game! 🦑

The last time I was running CoC was maybe like 10 years ago? But my investigators were playing much, much formerly. It was kinda big success to gather old friends together to play the game after such a long time although adjusting date took us like 2 months. Writing a scenario was fun itself (started last November) and I'm glad after 4-5 hours of playing there's one more session ahead.

Anyway while waiting for the session and having recent Sherman crossed off the list, I decided to paint something different before starting another Bolt Action thing. Reaching deep into bucket of shame I've found alien thing from Crooked Dice range I got quite a long tome ago together with some cultists. I never had any idea for this guy but coming RPG session put me into mood for painting something from eldritch horror range. Plus it turned out it was sculpted by my buddy from Chest of Colors times: Mr Bug Man. While assembling the model I realised it had some parts very similar to alien drop pod I from from Nav a while back. Very organic and disturbing piece!

As for painting I used some organic, natural tones hoping to make it look somehow believable. Don't think my investigators will meet somethink like this anytime soon (or anytime at all...) but I am really happy this beautie got the colors. And I am pretty sure Call of Cthulhu wide range of miniatures will get own shelf as soon as new display case arrives...

Cthulhu investigator #2

Hey,

Recently fearless investigator left my painting station and it turned out it was so much fun working on it I decided to paint some more.
As mentioned before I plan to make my players use low-class characters so this time it's a thief / robber (Grave robber maybe? Veeery cthulhish!) from oldschool EM4 line.
The model is part of Dunitch Detectives pre-painted set but just like in case of chaplain - it was washed off and got some fresh colors. Now I'm looking proper model for a drifter...

And some pictures:

Cthulhu investigator

I'm bit ill so trying not to get any worse I am sitting home painting some random stuff. Painting and patiently waiting for that damn Vallejo snow effect for KV-2 tank...

Anyway a while back if turned out my buddy from legal training it also Cthulhu worshipper... Eee... Eee... Meant: Call of Cthulhu player... Yeah... That's correct... 😈

He didn't know there's whole range of Call of Cthulhu dedicated miniatures so decision was made to paint a little gift. The model comes from West Wind Productions line: a while back I got some models for CoC diorama but somehow that project hasn't been executed yet.

Sadly

So here he is: brave investigator confronting horros from beyond:

"Hello, Wilbur! What are you hiding in that shed?"

About to bring some corrupted Dagon cultists to justice:

And accompanied by other "classic" investigators: chaplain and redneck moonshiner:

I want to play Call of Cthulhu so badly right now...

Church of Dagon

Ia! Ia! Ia!

I was planning to post post it bit earlier, but finishing half of the gang took me bit longer than I expected. What is this anyway?
Few months back the friend of mine proudly announced he ordered 3 or 4 warbands for Dracula's America skirmish game. At first I wasn't much keen on starting new game, especially taking place in a world of cowboys and Dracula's depraved minions...

Everything changed when I learnt there's also Church of Dagon posse, and somehow whole fluff wasn't silly any longer.

As for the game it's ok, standard match takes like 1,5 hrs and you only need 5-10 models. It's also space-wise: battlefield is only 36" x 36".  Game seems to be much more fun for more than 2 players.

What I like much more is miniatures range: these are metal (no plastic / shitecast bullcrap) and very characterful pieces. Perfect for pulp gaming as well as for RPG characters (Call of Cthulhu 1920 that is). Working on the models was total fun and really cannot wait to see remaining gangers done.

The box contains 8 models which is just complete gang, but since it's Cthulhu stuff I also dug out and added to the group 2maniacs from ancient RAFM range.
These pieces might not keep "modern standards" but still they are one the best miniatures from CoC range I'v ever seen. (There one one more model in the set, axe-man, but some time ago it was drafted for my Scavvy band).
Hope you like them:

And since it's about Greater Evil I am proud I can boast about finally getting copy of Call of Cthulhu 5.1 RPG. For the second time actually...

Whole thing was line time travel for me.
Back days, when I was like 16 (?) roleplaying games became available in our shithole. Most guys were playing Warhammer Fantasy and Cyberpunk but I chose thay green, mesmerising cover.
I remember the bookstore then I got the book, studying it 'till late night and long preparations before the first game as Keeper of Secrets.
During coming years we played it and had lots of fun but later the group fell apart so I thought I don't need it anymore - so sold it together with all supplements and stuff.

Which was so fucking stupid!
You don't sell your past, nevaaah!!!

Sorry for that...

Anyway some time back I spotted this jewel on auction and really didn't think twice before placing a bid. 3 days later it was in my place. Even though I don't think we'll get an opportunity to play again, I feel much better having it in the collection.
It's kinda like finding long-lost puzzle.

I do not fit to this world.
It's not mine.
I am tired.

Buboes, phlegm, blood and guts!

Ia! Ia! Ia! Nurgle fhtagn!

Ekhm... Sorry...
Well I don't think I can keep the secret anymore: this time it's about Nurgle once again. But not only about it. So let's start with the other thing, which is bunch of very cool sculpts from West Wind miniatures.

I got those several years ago, those times I still had enough time for Call of Cthulhu (well at least in theory: during studies my players used to spend most of spare time drinking, and I was way too stoned to do anything productive), so my idea was to add some miniatures to RPG sessions. West Wind sells lots of models perfect for CoC 1920s, I remember it was very hard to resist getting much more of them, so all in all I got dozen or so minis.

Those below are from "evil cultists" set + a detective from other blister. They were painted and based to fit a scenario I was preparing. It's just sad but the only thing left from big game plans was this mini-drioama. Since that time models were locked in the glass case, getting dust and nothing more. I was sure models were very sad to be hibernated for Nurgle knows how long, so last week I decided to find them new home.
It was a success thank to Lead Adventures Forum - absolutely the very best place for such type of toys. Just like 3 days after advert was placed it turned out models will have to cross and ocean (very cthulhish) and get to the land of OZ. Deeply hope the buyer will like them and of course - that models will like the new master.

I think I will be selling some other spare and unused models shortly so if you are interested in some painted goodies - stay tuned. And in the meantime...

Rot time!
Since the last post I got seriously hooked by paining Nurgle stuff, I think when it's done coming back to Necromunda will be pure pleasure. This time my chaos patrol has been supported by 2 more daemons: additional Heresy blight and oldie plaguebearer - I got this one slightly damaged so the upper arm has beed re-pinned and the plague blade was replaced with placcy cleaver.

I gave a try to some brighter flesh tones - my 3 years old kid suggested I should paint the last one black. I must say that is actually a challenge but the final effect may be worth whole effort.I am pretty happy of the blight's final look (will probably add some darklining around guts to separate it stronger from the flesh) but screwed a bit highlighting on plaguebearer.
Again.

It's actually not about painting which was acceptable until the varnish dried. Revell varnish. Revell super matt varnish which always reminds you to paint  strong highlights before sealing your models. I forgot about it so my glazing work was mostly wiped off.
Oh, well, shit happens in toy soliders business. I am leavining this rotting cyclops as it is so it reminds be about perils of the sealing phase.

Fhtagn once again!

Baby is getting bigger...

Hey again!

It's been a while but because some fucking banking shit exam I was forced to put the hobby away for a few weeks. All in all I passed (yaaay...) which result was nice diploma, lots of stress, some money spent for a trip to capital city and not a single more model painted.

Bad deal.

But I came back to the ash wastes and there are some results!
Last week I managed to spend some late night hours in the gaming spot and the 9th table module has been sanded and prepared for being planted*. Yesterday I even managed to take an "aerial" picture of the whole monster - 72" x 72" of dangerous wastes, ready for gaming!
I would love to slap a paint on it right now but I will wait for the plants and some extra details to be added - I've spent way too much time assembling the whole construction to allow myself hastyness with the final works.

And below 2 side-shots (sadly taken from the ground level). I have to build another frame to use the full size mode of the battlefield). For scale purposes you can see a single Van Saar ganger penetrating the ash wastes.

After assembling the 9th piece it turned out I still have another 24" x 24" unused board + hell lot of styrofoam. I couldn't miss such opportunity and the result of about 2 hours of intensive cutting was the hill below - already slightly sanded.
It seems to be the highest piece of natural terrain on the battlefield and I am sure we will be using it often: it can totally block line of sight but also be great spot for heavy machine gunner etc.

There is also color pic today!
Painting only a tiny gobbo is pathetic for a blog update but hey, you've just got lots of terrain, and I also said I was quite busy, right? ;-)
As you can see I managed to push forward my small Tale of Gamers side project. This time the paint was slapped on small gobbo champ I got from my old Nameless buddy. Painting these little cockers is neverending fun so just cannot wait to add another one onto the "painted side".
I also think I will give a try to dark blades - the one gobbo boss is wielding looks decent and I hope to achieve similar effect on bigger weapons as well.

And the cherry on the top of cake:
2 weeks ago, after several years of break, I finally managed to run Call of Cthulhu scenario! ^^
I didn't believe it still can be fun but it was! In fact is was such a great fun we decided to continue the gaming. After my players get out from the Arkham arrest** I think I will throw them into Innsmouth to see just how fast then cat run hehehe... ^(;,;)^

Fhtagn!

*sadly these damn plants are available here about August
** which was result of a sad shotgun "accident" in Ross Corners village...
