The Jewish State and the State of the Jews

 Here is another Dry Bones cartoon by Kirschen. We had a relatively quiet night here in the center of Israel. Only two missile attacks from Iran. The north of the country had multiple attacks though, as was the night before. A missle from Hezbollah hit a home in Nahariya (a seaside town in the north).

But all of the antisemitic attacks in the USA and the rest of the world are very worrying. Unfortunately we seem to be getting used to it. I looked for a more "up" and inspiring cartoon for today. I might need to post two. Sending love from a weary, sleepless but very strong and resilient land.

The once Proud Nations of Europe

It is sad that this is true today, even more, and that now serious antisemitism has become part of the mix. In Ireland the Dublin City Council is re-naming the park that is named after a native son of Ireland and a hero of World War 2 against the Germans, and the 6th President of Israel, Chaim Herzog to be re-named "free Palestine" Park.

Erev Succot (Sukkot) 2025

 Dry Bones Golden Oldies in memory of Yaakov Kirschen by Sali, the LSW. The holiday of Succot starts tonight, Monday and lasts for a week.

Here is a Dry Bones cartoon for Succot from 2009.

This cartoon is sort of the same theme as the one that I posted yesterday, of storm clouds gathering. We are all holding our breaths thinking that maybe, perhaps, the hostages will be coming home this week. And maybe we see a glimer of the possibility of peace, at least for a while. But we see the storm clouds. The Houthis are sending cluster bomb missiles almost everyday. Iran has made specific threats to send ballistic missiles over Succot. So it is both a tense and a hopeful time here in Israel. Also we see that Jews in Europe and America are in danger of being attacked and murdered just for being Jewish. More storm clouds, yet all this week we gather for festivities in our flimsy huts and wish for respite from the storm.

Trying our best

After I decided on this cartoon for today's blog, I came upon another that I liked better and couldn't decide between the two. Then I realized that the second cartoon from 1993 was cut off at the bottom and was not a good resolution, so went went back to look for it as a better version, but I could not find. So I am going to put up also the second, blurry cartoon. This is something that Yaakov would never do, but I really liked the wording and concept, so I am adding it. Wishing us all a good and better New Year.

Happy Passover! Dry Bones and the LSW could use your help this year

Dear readers and supporters, Sali, the LSW (Long Suffering Wife) here. First, wishing everyone a joyful, healthful and peaceful Passover holiday from Yaakov and myself. We are so very grateful for the many supporters who have given funds, prayers, help in many ways. I apologize for not quickly thanking you all personally. I have been very overwhelmed and am now sick myself.

Yaakov was taken to the hospital with pneumonia last week. He was sent back to the rehabilitation after intense treatment and testing. He was also having strong hallucinations and confusion. It seems to have been caused by both fever and medications. He still has lingering pneumonia but is off the meds and getting slowly better again. But he is very weak. 

I however, ignoring warnings to rest, as there is just no one to replace me, got very sick with sinus infection and pneumonia. I wish that I had a wife!!!! I ran a 38 degree plus temperature for 5 days and finally my doctor changed the antibiotic and it has seemed to help, so today finally my temperature is down to normal, but now my back is having painful spasms. Probably I was in bed too much. 

We are having to find a new caregiver for when Yaakov is able to come home. I rented an electric crane from Yad Sarah (a wonderful organization by the way). and now we have the electric wheelchair that I bought, so with a strong caretaker, we should hopefully be able to get by. I am told though that we might need to hire 2 caretakers to be able to lift him. He is scheduled to come home on May 5th.

In any case I will have to pay double salaries for 2 months as our old caretaker of almost 6 happy years, has to be paid a very large pension and an extra month salary. I have most of it saved up, but it is coming out to more than I expected. But I am sure that I will be more optimistic and cheerful once I am feeling better physically. There is a lot of paperwork and computer work to do that seems very daunting at the moment. 

Yaakov is keeping on occasionally doing his cartoons. We have the help of our graphic design friend S.Kim Glassman and she has made the doing of the cartoons possible. He feels the calling to be able to help fight for the cause of the Jewish People with his satirical  cartoons. Please help if you are able, and I totally understand if you are not able, then please help with your good thoughts and prayers. I, and we, appreciate it all and are very very grateful. Here is a Passover cartoon to enjoy! We pray for the hostages and our soldiers too. Much love to all!
