Tempos of Time

Michael at Boot Sale Sounds found an EP:" ... A soundscape of the last century starting with the clip clop of a horse drawn cab and ending with the bleep bleep of Sputnik. In between the voices of Churchill, Hitler, Marie Lloyd, Curuso, Gracie Fields and George Formby to name but a few...."

Dreams

Delia Derbyshire - Dreams (1964) " ... a collage of people describing their dreams, set to a background of electronic sound. Dreams is a collection of spliced/reassembled interviews with people describing their dreams, particularly recurring elements. The program of sounds and voices attempts to represent, in five movements, some sensations of dreaming: running away, falling, landscape, underwater, and colour. ...", at Ubu Web Sound of course.

Satan's plans revealed!

"... Having been attacked by a Satan worshipper, that incident and his deliverence is included on this album. As a missionary in the orient and here in the states he has seen people possessed and enslaved. He shares these and other gripping accounts. ...
Bill feels if we are to know victory we must know our enemy and his stategies. Ignorance is Satan's playground. ..." (quoted from the sleeve notes)

She's a Poet and She Don't Know It !

Here's a song our own special Donna Lethal penned, or perhaps wrote with a crayon.... it's about Phineas Gage (I once had a pet fish with a Phineas - get it? finny-ass?!! get it?) a guy who blasted an iron bar into his skull and lived for 12 years after the incident. His secret was smoking his last name some said...... the tune that goes with her spectacular lyrics is well structured, and maybe some of you massive-egoed (not me, I can assure you, I'm humble) PCLers should take a whack at it, giving it a versioned life of it's own and assuring PCL's a place known for multiple talented geniuses. Just like Donna.

PS: That's not her on the right or the left.

Question about online mp3 hosting with embeddable player.

Hi, gangsters.

It looks like BooMp3, the service I've used here at PCL for online mp3 hosting with embeddable player, has finally bitten the dust. I really liked that service, and the embeddable player in particular. It looked nice and didn't took up much space.

Now I'm looking for a service as good as this, or at least almost as good. Is such an alternative available? It needs to be free of charge.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Wolf Talk

"This recording consists of sounds of the wolves mixed with bird calls and water sounds. ..."
A Closet of Curiosities gives us Wolf Talk

"Part 1: You'll hear the calls and howls of wolves and the sounds of the following guest speakers: spring peepers, wood frogs, crow, barred owl, red-winged blackbirds, blue jay, chickadees, nuthatches, and one great horned owl."
Boomp3.com
That's the G-R-E-A-T-E-S-T horned owl I ever heard recorded!!!
The guest stars here make a superb backing band with a great natural back-to-the-roots kind of sound. And the main attraction here - the wolves - are really down with it. They've got the blues, alright! And like all great blues singers they're not show-offs. This is the real deal.
It's truly a wild and animalistic performance altogether.

What kind of worries me is that their follow-up has been put on delay, but the title has already been leaked to the press: North Korean Democracy.

Stag Party time!

" ... According to the liner notes, this collection of songs was improvised by rugby players during their showers after games. Soldiers and laborers have also contributed some of the lyrics to these songs. This LP was recorded at a men's party. The liner notes do not mention that it was a stag party, yet I do assume that it was a stag party. The songs are quite memorable. The day before yesterday, I caught myself singing one of these songs in the shower. I won't mention which one it was, as I feel embarassed admitting it. The songs are of a risque nature where lust and um, having relations are emphasized. Okay, they do get very raunchy. ..."

A little while ago A Basement of Curiosities found Stag Party in London Vol. 2 on vinyl and shared it with the rest of the world. Now the world is a better place. A peaceful place full of rugby players singing while showering their dirt off. I can picture it. If I try hard.
Now let's sing along in 'Sweet Violets' (with enhanced lyrisc):

Note: Raunchy lyrics. Music for grown-ups.

Daphne Oram

" ... Oram was one of the first British composers to produce electronic sound, a pioneer of what became "musique concrete" – music made with sounds recorded on tape, the ancestor of today's electronic music. Her story makes for fascinating reading. She was born in 1925 when Britain was between two world wars. She was extremely bright, and studied music and electronics – unusual at the time not only because electronics was an exciting new industry, but also because it was a man's world. ..."

Flash Gordon

" ... Flash Gordon at it's most typical embodied what I can only call "The Art Deco Space Opera Continuum". This can also be seen on the covers of a LOT of SF pulps, like the covers to those "Thrills Inc." issues. Flash was however, the trendsetter to be sure. It is a streamlined future, it's design implying the promise of forward motion... this is a world, a culture that is going somewhere. ..."

Audio: Paternal Flatulence and Child Development

An audio story of Dad's (Lex09) digestive tract antics over at GlyphJockey. Deftly and cleverly produced by my genius lad (Lex11), possibly award winning. Full of cusses. He promises me he will do the rest of the audio in a couple of installments. Even juicier stuff. Make him do it.

....all last names have been "backwardized" to maintain anonymity.
Also, in case you're bad with math, that's me telling the story.

The Music of Eastern

Chris over at Ultra Swank tells us:
"... why not take a trip to the sun with Eastern Airlines? Here are six one-minute vintage commercials with none other than Brazilian bossa legend Astrud Gilberto on vocals. The jingles were recorded in the late 1960s and styled in different variations. Taken from a promotion 7" record intended for their employees only, but now offered to the Ultra Swank readers as well. ..."

Deep Voices: The Second Whale Record

If we can have Songs of the Mule - we sure can have songs by Humpback Whales!

" ... One of the fascinating things mentioned by the liner notes is that humpback whales sing a different song every year and that they are the only animals to do so.

Note: A high-end audio system will be necessary to hear "Blues: Deep Voices" as the sounds recorded are too low to be heard normally which will explain why it seems that there is no sound on that track. ..."

Call for submissions

Marco and mr_melvis bring the news for all you porn music lovers out there, and a call for submissions:
"With the release of Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka - Porn Music For The Masses Vol. 1(over 138,000 downloads to date!) on Comfortstand.com in 2004, people all over the world were able to listen to and enjoy the soundtrack to their fantasies. Since that time, Comfortstand.com has sadly stopped releasing new material, but that has not stopped the needs of the people for new and exciting porn music tunes produced by artists from all over over the world. That being the case - WM Recordings (a sister label to Comfortstand.com and long time collector and distributor of 'outsider/exotica/avant garde/experimental' music), has gladly agreed to host a new volume of Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka - Porn Music For The Masses, on it's website. So the call for submissions starts NOW!
You can find all info here.
The first volume of Wakka Chikka Wakka Chikka can be downloaded here. "
