Brush a gogo

Frits Jonker reports:

"Believe it or not: Pieter Dorrenboom has his own site! As i have said more than a few times, it was a long time waiting, but the result is worth it. So, for today, all i want to show with you is a link to Brush a-gogo !
(And for those with some money to spend, Pieter sells some prints and other cool stuff. Impress your friends with work of Hollands most underrated comic artist on the walls of your living room!)"

Invasion of the 1970's Recreational Vehicles

Gilligan at Retrospace takes a look at 1970's Recreational Vehicles:
" ... They looked similar to home decoration, but the enclosed space makes it all the more shocking. It's almost too much to take in at once. It's an all out assault on the eyes; it's everything bad about 1970's decor condensed. ..."

Because good design speaks for itself

A clip from Design for Today (1965).
You don't have to be Einstein to figure out from what part of the world this film was made after seeing the Umbrella.

Saucy Typefaces.

The designers over at Wallpaper* are hosting a gallery of "type tart cards" -- variations on the venerable British tart cards, but each dedicated to a different typeface.

(Psst! Watch out for that Arial. She'll leave a mark!)

Soviet Mayan Playing Cards

"... The only vendor for playing cards (as for many other stuff in Soviet Russia) was the Soviet State, so there were only a few type of the cards - just maybe ten at most, not hundreds or thousands as in free market societies, and one of the types of the playing cards were devoted to the Mayan culture for some reason. ..."

The Many Faces of Blue Note.

Vintage Vanguard has a terrific (and incredibly comprehensive) gallery of Blue Note album covers (front and back!), stretching from the mid-1940s to the late 1970s or so. Gorgeous design work. The fun starts here.

Monster Crazy

Halloween's a comin' - you getting MONSTER CRAZY yet?
The concept is simple. Images of creatures grotesque or cuddly from a vast spectrum of sources and an infinite variety of styles, simply laid out for maximum appreciation.
I've even got my 3 year old hooked on it.
I'm all over this 365 a year but it's a fine month to cycle back through previous submissions.
Enjoy!

Tomi Ungerer

´
Anti-war poster, published 1967

"Tomi Ungerer’s work, along with that of a handful of others, might rightly be considered to not only embody the design style of the 60’s and 70’s, but to have played a central part in that style’s ascendence. Throughout those decades Mr. Ungerer’s work was everywhere, encompassing everything from politics and commercial concerns to erotic publications and children’s books. He was prolific, and in no realm more so than in that of the poster. .."

Jaime, The Nonist found the 1971 book "The Poster Art of Tomi Ungerer". He has scanned and uploaded a "small sampling" for our viewing pleasure. Nice.

Some changes

... are taking place.

We have a new logo/masthead!
It was created by our great artistic team member Lex10.

I was running tired of the old one and thought it was time for a change.
We have also changed the label buttoms (but that is still a work in progress as long as the brainstorm continues to roar ...).

Some other changes will continue to roll out during the hours and days to come.

It's still the same old blog though.

The best PCL LinkDump out there.
