More Eldar Thunks

So now that the Eldar dex has made the rounds, and the webnards have pored over it, consumed it, digested upon it and propounded "I AM THE ONE TRUE 40K GROGNARD AND I SAY THIS!" and the netlisting and other animal grunting noises have been flapped unto the masses... here's what I'm thinking about today.

Quick Update from the Western Front (Dundracon)

Got my first game in today running Corsairs. I made lethally bad choices during deployment against Space Wolves which ultimately cost me the game but I did get enough time at the table to learn the following:

Corsair HQs: Void Dreamer or Corsair Prince?

Getting ready for my big once-per-year gaming weekend and I'm mulling over my choices. I don't know what games of 40K I'll be playing, what point size or against whom. The only certainty is that there will be 3+ armor saves involved somewhere. CSM, GK, IG, Vanilla and Tyranids are all on the menu. It's a pretty limited metagame, but not one that's too far outside the norm, so who do I pick as my default HQ choice?

The Corsair Army List: Pirate Ho!

After spending the last two weeks packing and moving, I was delighted to come back online and see that there were new Army Builder files for Imperial Armour 11! As soon as I got a chance, I sat down to see if I could cheese my way through a few lists. So, without further ado, here we go...

Note: the .ab file might not be entirely correct on points cost. To play it safe, I underpointed the army somewhat...

Imperial Armour 11, Part 4: The Corsair Army List

Ah yes, Corsairs! They've existed in the fluff for ages, and it seems reasonable that the Eldar pirates would be the most frequently encountered xenos in the Imperium, but ironically enough no one has seen rules for them since the Rogue Trader days (barring perhaps BFG players). Hmmm! So how does Forgeworld's take on the Corsairs stand up?

Imperial Armour 11, Part 3: Other New Units

In the last article I talked about Shadow Spectres, Warp Hunters and Hornets. This time around I'll be covering the Wasp Assault Walker and Wraithseers before moving on to the revised material from the Doom of Mymeara.

Imperial Armour 11, Part 2: Final rules for the new models!

I've had some time now to review the final version of the rules for the IA11 Eldar vehicles that I reviewed earlier - in their experimental form - here. A more complete review of the book itself will follow later.

Imperial Armour 11, Part 1: Overall

When I first heard that Forgeworld was working on an Imperial Armour campaign book for the Eldar, I was ecstatic. Like many other 40K fan-boys, I had lusted after Forgeworld's resin crack, their many awesome terrain accessories and supplemental modeling goods for a long time. I listened with rapt attention as the Independent Characters dissected the Badab War and the Anphelion Project, utterly unaware that I was drooling on myself the entire time.

New Eldar stuff from Forgeworld!

Well, Imperial Armour 11: The Doom of Mymear went up for sale on the Forgeworld site today! Of course I placed my order immediately. It should arrive before Christmas, after which I will be scouring it and posting a follow-up to my reviews of the beta rules for all the units which I posted here previously. Keep watching!

Hornets, Shadow Specters and Warp Hunters, O My!

If you've wandered by the Forgeworld website recently, you may have noticed some new Eldar models. Or perhaps you've seen the pictures of these models from the last Games Day floating around the web.

I recently posted a review on these new UNOFFICIAL additions to the Eldar arsenal over on the Independent Characters' forum.

I won't repeat that review here because I'm lazy, but I would encourage you to head over there and read it if you're at all interested, as well as checking out the site in general. If you're not familiar with the ICs they are a biweekly podcast about 40k, and they tend to include a lot of material not only about the local gaming scene here in the South Bay but explore a lot of the rules material in a fun and creative way.

One caveat: just so you don't think I'm a hypocrite after my Hype article, remember that this review I posted contains MY opinions about the new units. You might have some unique insight that I lack. If so, I encourage you to share your opinions either here in the comments or in the forum thread itself.
