Do you know someone who enlisted in World War I in Canada?•• Search the WWI CEF database ••
Do you know a Canadian killed while serving his country?

My wife's grandfather, a member of the Canadian Cyclist Battalion, (pictured, in the kilt) was wounded by German shelling and carried around shrapnel from WWI for the rest of his life.
And he was one of the lucky ones... two of my grandfather's older brothers (with four young children between them) were killed in Belgium and France, respectively.

Throughout the prime minister’s tenure he has been prone to obfuscate via creative terminology; for example referring to illegal migration as ‘irregular’ and homegrown ISIS terrorists as ‘foreign travellers’.And, of course they're back for more. It's an election year.
Gotta make hay while the sun shines.

I began by explaining that I, like my feminist sisters, blame “men” for the Montreal Massacre, too—it’s just that I blame not only Gamil Gharbi, but also the “prophet” Muhammad, Pierre Trudeau, and the fifty or so male students who meekly left their classmates to their fate.**********

And, when it was over and Gharbi walked out of the room and past them, they still did nothing. Whatever its other defects, Canadian manhood does not suffer from an excess of testosterone.”That's what we aspire to... right?

The remains of four Canadian soldiers who fought in the First World War were identified Saturday. And then there's this...
They are Lt. Clifford Neelands, Lance Sgt. John Lindell, Pvt. Lachlan McKinnon and Pvt. William Simms.
OTTAWA — For 98 years, Capt. Richard Steacie’s remains have rested in a Belgian gravesite, buried with the vaguest of inscriptions — "Captain of the 14th Battalion Unknown".

But, but, but... he's so McDreamy
I have never been a big fan of Barack Obama... but I had to admit he surprised the crap outta me, making a pretty gutsy call to unilaterally invade Pakistan and execute Osama Bin-Laden...Osama bin Laden steered the global operations of the al-Qaida terror network until his death last year at the hands of the U.S. Navy’s SEAL Team Six. The president and his surrogates have made the terrorist leader’s death a focal point in Obama’s re-election campaign, painting Obama as a decisive leader who took down America’s greatest mortal enemy.Turns out, though... the car-salesman in chief isn't the broad-shouldered, larger than life, get it done hero the mainstream media gushily made him out to be. In fact, it's beginning to look like the CIA and the U.S. military were the actual foot on the gas pedal here....
In ”Leading From Behind: The Reluctant President and the Advisors Who Decide for Him,“ Richard Miniter writes that Obama canceled the “kill” mission in January 2011, again in February, and a third time in March. Obama’s close adviser Valerie Jarrett persuaded him to hold off each time, according to the book.Yeah, that sounds more like Mr. "Buy the world a coke"... you know... the guy who's gonna level out all the world's inequities...
President Barack Obama is backing a controversial campaign by progressives to regulate schools’ disciplinary actions so that members of major racial and ethnic groups are penalized at equal rates, regardless of individuals’ behavior.Looks like Barack is taking a page out of Dalton McGuinty's "Imagine All the People" playbook...
The board’s decision requires that “the state’s 24 school systems track data to ensure that minority and special education students are not unduly affected by suspensions, expulsions and other disciplinary measures,” said a July 25 Washington Post report.
“Disparities would have to be reduced within a year and eliminated within three years,” according to the Post.
"The Liberal government’s Bill 212 was in response to a complaint launched by the Ontario Human Rights Commission regarding the extent to which 'racialized students' and 'students with disabilities' were unfairly treated through the zero tolerance approach to student discipline."Yet again... the price of political correctness.

You can choose to sit behind a desk... you can choose to skydive...
Or you can choose to roll the dice at 225 mph.
I think, for most of us... (Albert Einstein et al excepted)... a career is mostly background noise. Some of us just choose to crank up the volume more than others.
Just this summer, a newfound friend of ours... a smart, funny, multi-faceted guy... was told he had pancreatic cancer.
Three months later he was dead.
He was 40 years old.
This was a man who embraced the people around him, who made smart choices, who absolutely radiated humanity. I keep thinking... "I wish we had known him longer... known him better."
Life. Death.
So many imponderables, so little time.
Anyway, his name was Andre... and we think of him fondly and often.
Maybe that's the mark of a life well-lived.
