Melting wax ....
As far as I know there are 5 "interesting" libraries on UBM. Two of them posted here already and off we go with a third. Icarus by David Rosenstein. Mr Rosenstein is just another Ralph Haldenby, I suppose. Nobody else but Uwe Buschkötter and his crew... most of the tracks were written by famous german jazzman Manfred Schoof. And so the record is in fact a little jazzy. First track - Weather Report, if that doesn't give a direction? Well actually they're going many directions again on this one. Excellent Jazz Funk and Fusion is one of them, of course. But also some cosmic electronics and to my personal pleasure some ambient tunes as well. Check out Nucleus on the B-Side. Doesn't the synth sound exactly like on Skyracer? And don't you think that Icarus might be a sequel of Skyracer, thematically?
Nuff talk - time for a listen. Link in the comments.

Horns and stuff ....
Habirigum was a group of well educated musicians from Hamburg, Germany. According to the little info to be found in the web they were playing the famous Onkel Pö regularly between 1975 and 1985.
On their one and only hard to find release called "1" they play excellent Jazz-Funk / Jazz-Rock with a strong focus on reeds and horns (see the cover ; )
It was recorded in 1982 at Volksparkstudio in Hamburg and released in 1983 as a private pressing. Here's the musicians involved:
- Bass – Jörg Brohmann
- Drums, Engineer – Ben Ahrens
- Guitar, Percussion – Wolfgang Kröger
- Tenor Saxophone, Soprano Saxophone, Alto Saxophone – Matthias Goldbach
- Trombone, Soprano Saxophone – Nadir Ibrahimoglu
Cheers, Basso
EDIT: a member of Habirigum has asked not to share their music so I deleted the download link

Nacht-Schicht

A long time after "Airport International" from the amazing Sound Factory Inc. has been posted here "Night Shift" finally follows. According to the info on the cover we're writing 1979 and the discobeat found his way into the Factory's grooves. Guessing from the sound "Airport" should be a few years older, 1975-1976 maybe... but back to 1979 - the Sound Factory Inc.'s sound is a little les focussed on trombone but they are still playing excellent Jizz Funk with Fritz Münzer laying down these lovely flute grooves. Even the infamous Rainer Pusch is doing his thing on saxophone here... on the keys Pit Löw, also known as P. L. (!)
The Sound Factory Inc. changed their name to "House-Band" in 1982 and recorded at least 3 library LPs in the following years. These will pop up here some time ..... just like the link for your Nightshift.
Cheers!
P.S. Doesn't the "Limehouse Groover" really sound like a Reith composition?

Vytas Offers More
First of all big thanks to Zeroy, Tako and Abel. Without them I probably still wouldn't have heard about Vytas Brenner and his music. In the last 3 years I have spent quite a bit of time and that other stuff trying to get hold of his complete LP catalogue and I yet didn't succeed. There's quite a few LPs he made.... and amazingly all that I got to know by now are excellent. Here's a special one "Ofrenda" from 1978. You might call this Psychedelic Jazz Funk. But first listen ......
info here
cheers, Basso

They've Left the Window Open Again . . .

Czech jazz keyboardist Emil Viklický assembled a tightly knit crew for this outing. Bill Frisell on electric guitar and Kermit Driscoll on electric bass (Frisell and Driscoll have a long history together) and rounding off the rhythm section is drummer Vinton Johnson. The band nailed the jazz funk sound with this one. Viklický's synths and clavinet lines bounce well with Driscoll's bass workouts. We also get a preview of Frisell's future sound as a leader with this recording. Okno turned 30 this year. Still sounds fresh . . .

Madness is different....

Here's some more private german jazzrock from the early 80s. Glatter Wahnsinn's self titled LP on Anvil Records from 1980. In big demand because of Samba La Bamba. The rest of the tracks are really great too and if you can take a little fusion you'll have lotsa fun with it. I'm having fun with the keyboard work especially. It makes up for the sax (can't stand saxophones....)
cheers,
Basso
PS. Glatter Wahnsinn roughly translates Total Madness

why on earth did it fall from the rack?

Sound Factory Inc. - Airport International (1977? Drive In)
You see that slightly bend corner. That's what you get when you can't compete with gravitation. Next time I'll be having a glass less... Anyway the record still is incredibly nice and shiny and the music is more than nice stuff. Library funk with strong use of horns. The trombone rocks the house imo. I found out recently that the Sound Factory Inc. is actually the Second Direction crew and went on to search for the rip of my copy of "Airport International". It's almost of the same quality as the beautiful long tracks of my deeply adored Four Corners LP, but still very listenable. Check out Discogs for details.

Lobaszewska, the great!

Here you are! Some funky polish Pop. On Side A Lady Lobaszewska is accompanied by singer Piotr Schulz. Didn't like this slow groover at first, but it was growing over the last years... so I can say I'd prefer it to the danceable B Side Za Gora Gor that features the almighty Ergo Band.
The choice is yours!

My favourite SNOWBALL
Okay the picture may not fit the music, but I had to ....... I usually don't post single tracks, but in this case (and maybe a few more in the future) I'll make an exception. I do this because I just found another copy of an LP that I almost forgot about. Strange enough, because one of the LP's tracks always accompagnied me (on my mp3 player) for almost 4 years now. Unfortunately I didn't name that mp3 properly. It just said "Tender Storm" and every time I lisened to it I was tenderly blown away. And every time I listened to it I thought "You'll hav to go through your records to find out what this is" and of course forgot about that a minute later. Yesterday I saw a copy of an LP that I already had (at a decent price) and listened to it. You already guessed it: There it was. "Tender Storm" on Snowball's (Kristian Schultze, Curt Cress, ....) Defroster LP from 1977. I love it!!!!!
PS. Four years ago I placed this ca. 150x150x150 cm sized snowball on the local
doggy lawn in the town I studied. It was then coloured by several four-legged artists.

A true american gentleman in Hamburg

Quite a few years back this LP opened my ears to the Big Band Sound. That doesn't mean this is a typical Big Band LP. Have a look at the lineup and you know it's not (there are lots of Rhythm Combination & Brass guys involved). It is in fact something inbetween and it features the lovely voice of Mark Murphy.
cheers,
Basso
Piano, Drum & Bass

Here's two in one 1976 albums for lovers of the good old "funky piano trio".
First up another rare german indiejazz gem - Ken Rhodes' "Profile" on Amayana.
Please note that this LP is posted fpr promotional purpose only. If you like it, visit Heinz Ulm's (big chief of Amayana) website here:
http://www.amayana.com/index.html and buy original & unplayed copies of "Profile" at a decent price.
Next up a record that can probably be found in every third bargain bin in the U.S. -
David Baker on Jamey Abersolds playalong label. Some of the tracks sound a little sterile, but I guess that's the thing with play-along-bop. The outstanding track is the funky " Le miroir noir". If anyone is interested in the notesheet.....
cheers,
Basso
