Aaaaaand, we're back! (with Bat Rep!)

The Throck of War Team, back from some needed R&R
I'm that saucy minx in the center.
Well, hello there stranger! It's been a good long time since I've been able to do anything with my humble blog, but I'm very happy to say ThrockOfWar is back in action! Having navigated an election, a super storm, getting my car totaled, the holidays part 1 and a pretty nasty illness it's taken me a bit longer to get here than I would've liked. But here I am, nay here we are! The Throck of War team is still in tact and we've even gained a few members.

Over the next couple of weeks I'll be posting up a backlog of stuff I've photographed over the last couple of months including:

~An Afrika Corps photo study for my mid war army, with WIP pics of the actual army to follow.
~WIP Picks of my 101st Para's & Welsh Guards for some upcoming market garden fun
~A pic dump from a Tournament at Huzzah Hobbies from late September where I got housed but Loon actually won the darn thing.
~Bolt Action Learn to Play fun and WIP pics of my SS and Ranger armies
~And hopefully much much more!

But first up I bring you a most excellent Bat Rep as last night my boy from the WWPD Forums Pyrrhic Victory and I threw down an epic 1780 point late war battle.

Scenario: Counter Attack
Points: 1780
Attacker: 99th ID by Pyrrhic Victory (Confident Trained from Devil's Charge)
Defender: 12. Volksgrenadierkompanie by Throckmorton (Confident Vet's from NUTS!)
Place: Our FLGS Eagle & Empire, Alexandria, VA.

The Board:
The Board with objectives. I deploy bottom right, Pyrrhic deploys top right.
Read on for the list's and the actual bat rep!

Throck of War Charity Tournament UPDATE

Hey All,

We're Full Up! Please drop me a line if you're interested in being an alternate. And now, officially, a qualifier for Nationals 2013! That's of course, if 5 people don't drop out between then and now :)

We're just a few weeks away from the first Throck of War charity tournament on August 18th. I've talked with Scott from NOVA open and we'll be using the NOVA Open mission primer and rules. This is a departure from the  original set up I was thinking of, but I think it's a good departure. We've got 10 players signed up right now and room for 16 total players. Once we hit 12 we'll be a 2 slot qualifier for nationals tournaments so drop us a line at throckmortonfow@gmail.com to get signed up!

On the day, sign up and check in begins at 10:30 with first round starting promptly at 11. Please remember to bring enough copies of your list to give one to each of your opponents and one to your tournament organizer.

The Three missions will be as follows:
Round 1: Frontline Domination(for domination mission rules see here)
Round 2: Hasty Attack
Round 3: Fighting Withdrawal

All missions will be fought on a 4x5 space. The Tables at E&E are 5x5 and the depth of deployment that allowed would favor certain armies over others. This means there will be 6'' of free space behind your deployment zone for placing models, dice and other bits.

The tournament will be held at:
Eagle and Empire
Belle View Shopping Center1520 Belle View BoulevardAlexandria, VA 22307

Roster (As of 8/7)
1. Ben G.
2. Rob K
3. Allen
4. Will S.
5. Andy
6. Sean O
7. Sean S. (?)

Operation Sealion, London Bridge comes Falling Down?

Well hey there everyone. After a couple of very busy days I've finally found a moment to post up our final Operation Sealion battle report.

The fine folks at WWPD have held one hell of a campaign and I'm glad to say it's one of things that really got me into blogging and playing FoW as my main miniatures game.

Seriously, hats off to the The Signal, Steven and the whole WWPD team for putting together one hell of a two month, global campaign of pure awesome-sauce.

Rumor has it that the next WWPD campaign will be 6 months or so from now (although the time line seems squishy, and for good reason, those boys need a rest!) and will be a mid-war desert campaign.

Welp, it's time to get started on that Yank Armored Rifle Company. It'll be the 36th Division, the T-Patchers, where my great-uncle served on a Priest motorized artillery piece.
In the mean time we'll be painting up and playing some early war with me doing French, Loon doing Germans and Rotny doing Polish Cavalry. We'll also be running our own little D-Day campaign (with Russian Lend-lease of course!) and participating in the local battle board league.

While Operation Sealion got this whole thing started, I assure you even though it's over we'll keep putting out the good stuff.

Now, on to the bat rep. I've decided to do this one a little differently than the rest. I'm going to post up all the pics and do a little narrative, but really, this huge 16000 point London battle is an homage to all the great fun we've had these last few months. Enjoy the pics, all 60-ish of them!

So, without further ado:

D Plus One at the FLGS

Hey all,  quick update on from a busy (and a little sick) sort of weekend. In commemoration of D-Day, onn Thursday I had the opportunity to play an 8,000 point game based on a D-Day plus one scenario with Panzer Grens, SS PanzerKompanie, FJ and others vs the 2nd armored,   29th ID, Canadians and the 101st. Great game that ended in a draw. Pics after the break
