MALANG: THE MAN AND THE ARTIST

In 1998, Filipino artist Mauro Malang Santos or popularly known as "Malang." was interviewed in "Alas Singko Y Media" morning TV program hosted by Julius Babao, Tintin Bersola and Ronald Estella. A rare TV appearance of the artist where he candidly shares his life, his thoughts and his arts. You will see him draw his landmark cartoon character 'Kosme" and his favorite theme "Woman."

MALANG AT WORK: A BRIEF SESSION WITH THE MASTER

At 81, Malang still paints, but rarely. We always prod him to paint and most of the time he declines and begs off. He feels he’s tired and burned out (I remember the late illustrator-writer Francisco Coching who retired early at age 55). But this is one exceptional instance that he obliges. He takes a brush, mixes and paints. Soler, brother-painter, and I just look and smile--- a brief memorable moment with the Master, our Dad.

"MALANG DRAWINGS" EXHIBIT AT SM MEGAMALL, JANUARY 23- FEBRUARY 8, 2009

Noted artist Malang celebrates his 81th birthday with a major one-man show at the SM Megamall Art Center. The exhibit will run from January 23 to February 8, 2009. A book, titled "Malang Drawings," will also be launched, authored by Juan T. Gatbonton and published by West Gallery.
