Good supplementary chemistry book
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 16 July 2014My class was recommended to buy this book by my chemistry AS teacher. While it wasn't our class set text, it's an excellent book if you want a supplementary book to help you practice the calculations needed for chemistry. The book takes you though how to do the calculations step by step. I found the calculations were at a more difficult level than in our standard AS book, which was useful when practicing for the exams.

Well I hate maths in chemistry but....
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 January 2020I have a strong dislike of chemistry, more specifically the mathematical side of it. The theoretical side I'm surprisingly good at. However, there can be no light without darkness and that darkness is maths. This book, whilst slightly outdated hence 4 stars, does set out how to approach and tackle these maths questions effectively and efficiently. The practice questions provided are also very useful and testing and somewhat numerous too. If like me you struggle with maths, this book will help you with it in chemistry

Calculations at A level
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 4 February 2013As a chemistry tutor this is an invaluable book to help students practice exam-type questions for all examining Boards but, more importantly, with the excellent explanations that accompany each chapter, the student builds understanding of the underlying concepts that then aids knowldege retention. Well laid out too.
I must give this 5 stars but, if I had one suggestion to the publisher, change the cover. I realise it is not sold this way as such but the cover may 'suggest' that it includes a CD or DVD, which it clearly doesn't.

Good condition and very useful
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 12 April 2022This book is a life saver. If you do A level chemistry, this is for you. Every calculation is explained with examples and then you have questions of your own to answer. The mark scheme is also very easy to follow and actually explains how to get to the answer. I’ve struggled with following mark schemes for calculation questions and this explains it perfectly.
The book came in perfect condition.
100% would recommend

One of the best books
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 March 2014As others have mentioned, this is a brilliant book for teaching the fundamentals of chemistry. I'm a tutor and have found this to be a very clear and valuable teaching resource. Kudos to Jim Clark for his book. I'm grateful for authors like him publishing texts for students. I have yet to find any mistakes, which is a big plus! One thing I wish for is more problems, but that's really not a complaint.

What a fantastic book - well explained concepts
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 September 2014What a fantastic book - well explained concepts, worked examples and plenty of questions to work on. It helped me immensely 3 years ago for a Level 4 (A levels + Uni 1st year) Chemistry course, and I'm now using it again for an exam I need to take. As the tests and exams on that course were primarily focused on calculation based questions, thanks to this book (as well as the author's website) my average was well over 85% on that course. Highly recommended!

Anonym5 out of 5 starsTolles Buch um die verschiedenen Berechnungen zu verstehen
Reviewed in Germany on 26 April 2016**ENGLISH VERSION BELOW**
Super Buch!
Amazing Book. I don't take A-Levels but the International Baccalaureate and it is still amazing. A lot of examples and Step-by-Step manuals for all the different types of chemical reactions. A MUST for every english-speaking Chemistry Student. The Author also has a Webiste called "Chemguide" - covers about every topic I could think of in High School level and maybe a bit more.
