Dominance and Heterosexual Attraction
The results of all four experiments supported the
prediction that dominance behavior would selectively
increase the sexual attractiveness of males. No
support was found for the notion that female
attractiveness would be inversely related to
dominance. The positive relation between dominance and
attractiveness for males was robust. Combining the
results of the four studies reported here by the
Stouffer method ( Rosenthal, 1978 ) yields a
probability value of p < .00001 for the relation
between dominance and male heterosexual
attractiveness. The same analysis performed on the
relation between female dominance and heterosexual
attractiveness yields a nonsignificant probability
value of p < .29.
