Saga Studios (saga)
Ellis Dee founded Saga in September 1995, recruited like a one-man hurricane through November and by the May 1997 NFO the verdict was in: "haha! It's dead! :)"
The roster Saga assembled in that window was extraordinary: Grateful Dead in from Legend, Argon as General Coordinator, Bigge Pif from Grip, The Night Angel from Dark, Cool T returning, Flipside, Chainsaw from Bleach, P-Chan and Sinister X and Bedlam in from ACiD, The Pumpkin King doing VGA/RIP/ANSi, Sharp Edge from Israel, Rza, 4th Disciple. Cybernary started a CyberData zine. The site network refused distros entirely stating "the only way to be affiliated with saga is by being a member."
And then ACiD absorbed it. STC and Ragnarok went over, Catbones returned, Apathy's December NFO mentions "the whole saga/acid merge thing" as a known event. Saga had been an experiment in pure-talent recruiting that ran headlong into the gravitational mass of the institutions it was trying to compete with.
A short, loud life. The CyberData zine alone is worth the view.
