DW Akademie in Africa

Although Africa has long been part of the digital age, not everyone has benefitted. The majority of Africans cannot fully exercise their right to freedom of expression, and especially rural populations, women and young people are affected. However, their issues are key to the development of the entire continent and are why they are central to our media development activities.
We advise traditional media outlets, community radio stations and bloggers in 18 sub-Saharan African countries, focusing on strengthening quality, independent media and the sustainable development of training structures for media professionals.
At the political level, we advise government agencies and non-governmental organizations. Our goal is to strengthen media and information literacy, particularly among young people, because it is essential for the growth of an African knowledge-based society.
