One of our favourite apps for learning another language, the process is genuinely fun. What’s more, all those languages and games are available for free!
Most bugless featureful and an app where you can actually learn and correct your mistakes
exapsy
It’s the most polished app out there I have found, for learning languages. I’ve tried Mondly, a buggy mess and it really doesn’t help correct your mistakes and repeat them correctly. Unlike duolingo. I’ve tried other ones as well. I uninstalled it after being barely usable or really teaching me anything. Teaching comes with repeating and Mondly hasn’t realized it. Instead it blasts you with new words every day and you’re supposed to learn them all.Busuu? Same more or less, buggy and doesn’t take account your pace. It takes you with its own pace. But duolingo takes this in the pace you want and you can even compete or get rewards and points which makes it even more rewarding.Zero bugs encountered so far which I definitely did not expect. And the model of learning is the best I found along with the HelloChinese app. HelloChinese really has some huge similarities with DuoLingo in how it makes you repeat the words just in case you don’t remember them or to remember them correctly and better. And bugs also zero and takes you with your own pace and you don’t over learn words. So I’ve had my couple of experiences with Learning languages apps. And I only have two to name which are on the scale of being actually useful to really learn a language.
Great app but could get better

Been using this app both as free version and pro (paid) version at times for French and German. Three important issues:- On hearing exercises many times the ‘slow’ feature doesn’t work and you can hear the fast phrase on both buttons. Also many times word matching exercises have errors: when there are two synonyms of one word in the same exercise, you must match them specifically in two pairs.- Just today I seem to be getting a message every time I log in. This says that my streak is lost and that I should pay to reinstall my streak.. but this happened 2 days ago and I have paid the 5,49eur to fix it ( which by the way is a very high amount for something like this) I was then at day 43 and now I’m in day 45 and still get the message.. asking me to pay again when at the same time I have activated the streak freeze feature anyway so there is absolutely no reason for this to happen.- I’m trying to reach customer support but can’t seem to find a contact email/ live chat/ number anywhere in the app or the developer’s website. Don’t you think that a live chat support feature should be available for your users?
Disappointing/Horrible new energy system
kristenscandal
I’ve been a Duolingo user since 2017. The heart system never bothered me too much since I was using a free version. However, with this energy system, it is now impossible to make it through a legendary session without running out of energy. Even if I continuously watched ads to gain more energy, it would not get me through a lesson. Although Duolingo for a long time has pivoted towards its paid users, this is a slap in the face. This does not encourage language learning at all. It’s one of the only apps out there that supports Greek, so it’s difficult for me to switch. But before this energy system I was thinking of paying for Super and now I just refuse. It’s so wrong to pretend to be a company that encourages learning and then punishes users for trying to learn “too much” in one day. The heart system at least encouraged me to be thoughtful about the learning/mistakes I was making. This system is just impossible to do more than a lesson or 2 per day, with each lesson easily taking under 5 minutes. I’ve never left a review on anything before but this is just so disheartening as someone who was really a fan of Duo’s system of learning (in spite of its flaws).
Our mascot owl, Duo, is trading in his usual diet of mice for bugs this week. Yup, we’re squashing those pesky bugs to make the experience better for all of you.
