One of the most useful utilities I use many times a day. It just works and saves countless minutes/day and hours/year. A quick keyboard shortcut or menu click, and I can draw a box around text onscreen, which then appears as text on the system clipboard. There are many times when you can’t drag across text and copy it; your eye sees text but the computer doesn’t think of it as selectable text. TextSniper solves that.Note that it may have trouble with other languages if they are written in other scripts, so Asian languages and Arabic will give it trouble. But how cool is it to be able to pause a movie, draw a box around a sign on the screen, and paste that text into a translation app or website?One improvement would be nice: it has a habit of replacing em dashes with hyphens. Hopefully it can be tweaked to do a better job with that.

I first read about this app on on Apple News>MacRumors. It describes a situation I come across often, which is wanting to copy some text from the screen, but I always had to manually type it. This app totally eliminates the need for re-typing. I purchased 2 copies from the developer's website, and it did everything that was advertised, and didn't know how we could've gone so long without something like this. A few days after my purchase, I found it was now available on the Apple Mac App Store. I wrote to the developer, Valerijs, and requested a refund so I could re-purchase it via the AppStore. I received a full refund in about 1 hour, and also received detailed instruction on how to completely remove the App from our Macs.I re-purchased this App from the AppStore, but had some problem installing the second copy due to my own unfamiliarity with Family Sharing. Valerijs was very understanding, and offered a free promo copy, but by then, I had figured out what I was doing wrong. The customer support was just terrific.Now to the App. I am able to frame any text on the screen, and instantly the text was in my clipboard. I even tried selecting some French words in a comic, and it show up in the clipboard, and I was able to paste it into Google Translate. I probably will never need to use another OCR program again. Also, it does not need internet for this OCR capture, and everything is done locally on the Mac.I would give this app a 10, but 5 is the max allowed. I can’t wait to see future versions and see what other features Valerijs might add. Thanks Valerijs for a great app.

I have used TextSniper for more than three years, and I’ve recommended it multiple times to friends who use Macs. It works beautifully. The only trouble I ever seem to have is when I'm copying a column of numbers (like from a table, to add to a spreadsheet), sometimes I lose rows that only contain the number 1. The program works incredibly well at getting lengthy URLs from images in which they are not clickable. I typically use it multiple times every day for a variety of purposes. While the automatic OCR of Preview is sometimes useful, TextSniper is much easier to use and more likely to get what I need out of an image.
