A Table for Two: Growing Up and Holding On

This recent coffeehouse visit was a special one. I got to spend the day with my firstborn, Desmond. What can I say about Desmond? He's so reserved with a nonchalant expression, but his laughter makes my heart smile, especially since he doesn't do it often. The teenage years, gotta love them right? Or not...🤣. We took this trip on one of his early release days. We do this every now and then. I always say yes when he asks, because I love our time together as mother and son. The older he gets, the harder it becomes, so I take advantage of every opportunity.  During these outings, I ask him how his day went and anything on his mind he'd like to discuss. Of course, me asking him these things wouldn't warrant much of a response and I don't push it. I open the door and allow him to walk in when he's ready to talk, and he usually does.  This talk was about getting ready for upcoming tests, such as the SAT and ACT and colleges he's thinking of applying too. He's...

Farm to Table - Fresh Food and Convo

Coldwater Coffeehouse and Bakery was just what I needed. They are not just a cafe; they are a worker-owned farm-to-table cooperative dedicated to uplifting their community. Rooted in their neighborhood, they prioritize offering affordable, wholesome meals and empowering the community to grow, produce, and access high-quality food. By celebrating local heritage and promoting cooperation, they preserve their history while fostering health, wellness, and connection. I had the pleasure of sharing this hidden gem with my new friend Levette from LifePoint Phoenix , the church I joined early last year. I’ve included a link so you can learn more about LifePoint, but let me just say—you truly have to experience it for yourself. I also left a detailed review for you to check out! 😊 Let me tell you about Levette—she’s someone you can’t help but love once you get to know her. She truly embodies God’s love in human form. Her voice is nothing short of heavenly, and it’s clear that she cheri...

The Convo at Deseo

I found this cute coffee shop by accident. I work as a case manager and needed to meet with a client nearby. Considering that I don't know much about coffee shops and I wasn't familiar with the location, I did a quick Google search for local coffee shops. Of course,  Starbucks popped up, since there is one on every corner, I figured that would be a quick and easy location for us to meet.  On my way to Starbucks, I had to take a detour due to construction, which was such an inconvenience and pushed my appointment behind a bit. I pulled into a parking lot to get my barrings and it just so happened to be the parking lot of Deseo Coffee Shack . Once I saw how close this was to my client, I knew this would be a better choice and she agreed.  Once we went inside, it was packed, which we both weren't expecting because from the outside it appeared empty. It's such a cute and quaint space and their menu options were quite intriguing.  To give a little background on Da...

It All Started With Coffea

I don't drink coffee. Actually, my favorite beverage has always been tea. What inspired me to write reviews of the top coffee shops? I'm happy you asked, though 😊. Mike, my service writer, was reading my license plate when I was at the dealership having my car serviced. Since my license plate included coffee, he inquired as to if I was a coffee lover. I started thinking back on the significance of my license plate before responding. My plate had nothing to do with the beverage but everything to do with culture. During COVID, I created a magazine called  Arizona Coffea  with the goal of highlighting the Black community in a positive light. The magazine gave me the opportunity to share the stories of unsung heroes within the community. It was a project I cherished deeply, but, like all good things, it eventually came to an end. While I loved  Arizona Coffea,  my passion for it began to fade, and what once brought me joy started to feel like a burdensome chore. I knew ...
