Checking in

Hey everyone, sorry I went dark for a bit. I've been busy at work, busy with some personal / family stuff (everyone is happy and healthy, just stressed), and I haven't really had the time to work on Learning Curve that I would have liked.

So, I'm still here, the project is not abandoned.

HOWEVER - I am starting to see if I can convert everything into Godot!

What that would mean, pros and cons

Pro - Higher resolution possible (and better graphics in general, at least possible)

Pro - Fewer bugs from me trying to break RPGmaker

Pro - Faster development because it's easier for me to make changes and use version control and such

Con - You all have to wait upfront for the conversion

I'm still in the early stages of this, and need to figure out if I'm continuing with the RPGMaker built-in graphics (that is, if I'm legally allowed to) or going to all new graphics. Either way, my plan is to remake the game as-is in Godot, and then to follow my previously planned path to completion.

Anyway, thanks for sticking with me, as always I appreciate any feedback people have and I hope you're all doing well.

about that "if im legally allowed to" part, if what you mean is if you can legally distrubute and sell a game using 100% assets and music from RPGmaker, you can as RPGmaker gives you the rights to sell games using thier assets when you get a copy of RPGmaker, but i heard it can be a bit of a taboo amoung RPGmaker developers

yeah, i haven't really tried to get a solid answer on this but from what i've read it's not totally clear if i have the right to sell an RPG maker game using those assets, or if I have the right to sell any game using those assets (that is, am i allowed to use the assets on a different platform, or only if it's on the RPGmaker platform). I would like better graphics, so that's another thing that'll make this take longer unfortunately!

I wish you to have fun writing a conversion! I can definitely see where the game is pushing RPGmaker past what it's supposed to be doing and suffering for it, so having a more customizable engine should help a lot.

Thanks for the info! I tend to marinate some games in development but been checking this one quite often. Take ur time polishing this gem, cheers!

I like this game because I like seeing numbers go up. If the wait time goes up, that too is a number going up. Do what works for you.

Appreciate the update, Take all the time you need! The only question I have is, does moving to Godot mean everyone would need to start over, or would there be a way to transfer saves? The only things I know about coding imply that it would probably be really difficult.

I think theoretically it's possible, but I would have to basically build a utility to convert the rpgmaker savefile into something godot could read and save appropriately, so it's unlikely to happen.

Fair enough! Still, thrilled to hear the game is still being worked on, in any capacity. Do what works for you, and we'll be waiting!

im fine with replaying 9-10 hours of content if it means you can make the game better

Waiting? Such evilness. How could you WWWAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
