Today marks the 10th anniversary of the cancellation of Magon's Adventure, but if you don't know what I'm talking about, let me explain; It was a project developed by Magon Mario, and I was also in charge of the game.
About the game.
It's a 2D platformer with traditional animation. The game shares some similarities with Kirby games and features character acquisition like Pokémon, plus online and local multiplayer.
The game is divided into islands, and the challenge increases with each level. Depending on the character type, you can access hidden areas.
The game includes boss battles that, when defeated, unlock them as playable characters.
The idea is based on a parallel universe inhabited by different creatures called Magons, regardless of their species, they are all called Magons.
Four main characters; a cat girl, a snake with floating hands and feet, a blue bird man, and a gecko man are interrupted at their party when King Magon steals their cake. The four friends then set out to find their precious cake.
In the game, you choose one of the four characters mentioned above, who must traverse numerous levels on each island, protected by their respective leaders.
Development and merchandise.
The game would be developed using the Construct 2 engine, that development would begin in mid-2013.
The game would feature four-player multiplayer, with the option to play online.
While playing with a team is not mandatory, there would be mechanics that would require playing with a partner to achieve 100% completion.
Reason for its cancellation.
There were multiple reasons for its cancellation. Its developer was experiencing emotional problems, apparently suffering from severe depression due to an incident while browsing social media. While trying to promote the game, he encountered a dangerous online community that mentally harassed him.
A lack of support also contributed to the cancellation. Previously, all content was uploaded to the now-defunct Google+, but the low number of followers wasn't enough to generate revenue. However, the situation worsened when YouTube issued two strikes to his channel, preventing him from monetizing and receiving views.
Magon Mario decided to permanently cancel the project on November 8, 2015, closing all his social media accounts.
Is there any chance of saving Magon's Adventure?
Well, Magon's Adventure is owned by Magon Mario, and there's no way to talk to him at the moment. A couple of years have passed, and many games with similar themes and characters have been released, including Undertale, which was one of the most popular games, and Kirby Star Allies, which came out years later, which had similar mechanics.
But the problem is that the game isn't very well-known. Even if we bring it back, it probably wouldn't cause much of a stir and could end up being a marketing flop.
So we're leaving it as a slim possibility.
You may not know him or you may think I made up this story, But it served as a foundation for me to become an animator. Magon Mario wasn't a great person, but his project has helped me move forward.
So, thank you, Magon Mario, for being part of your game.
