Running Jessie - updating every day or so to keep up

Have several Bookmarks defined which (used to until last night) show up under
"My Computer" on Sidebar
These bookmarks relate to both network and local extra physical HDD's

After updating on 21/8/14 the bookmarks are behaving "strangely"
On startup not all are shown in sidebar under "My Computer"

Some network ones are shown on startup but others (actually on the same remote
NAS) don't show
One of the extra HDD ones does show after I mount the drive but another, on a
different drive, doesn't

I can access the drives by going into the Edit Bookmarks and doing a "Jump To"!

I have also tried Nautilus - which I don't use generally as the user i/f isn't
as "nice" - and the bookmarks are all listed under bookmarks - but some twice
(that's not really an issue as I may have added the ones I couldn't see under
nemo twice!!!). Can't see a "Help About" on Nautilus so can't easily tell
version.

Is this still happening? Have you rebooted in the middle?

I haven't been able to reproduce this.

If it's still happening to you can you try killing nemo and starting it from a console and checking what output you get?

[Message part 1 (text/plain, inline)]
Hi

Thank you for asking - much appreciated - Yes it is still the same issue

OK Reboot from scratch

Start Terminal -> nemo

 jimc@jupiter2:~$ nemo
 blah
 blah
 blah
 blah
 blah
 blah
 blah
 blah
 blah
 blah

(nemo:2753): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to set text from markup due to
error parsing markup: Error on line 1: Entity did not end with a
semicolon; most likely you used an ampersand character without
intending to start an entity — escape ampersand as &

error parsing markup: Error on line 1: Entity did not end with a
semicolon; most likely you used an ampersand character without
intending to start an entity — escape ampersand as &

 (several following blank lines)

(That's all it shows for the whole session)

The smb: shortcuts are shown in the LHS pane (several network mount points)
The /media/ shortcuts are not shown for drives that are not mounted yet
(as expected or at least acceptable behaviour)

Click on one of the unmounted drives that has bookmarks defined for
folders on that drive - enter password - it mounts OK and shows folder
list in RHS pane (as expected) - but the bookmarks are not added to the
list shown on the LHS pane. This is now an issue because to get to the
bookmark locations I have to either navigate through the folder list on
RHS pane or I can bring up the bookmarks/edit dialog and click on the
bookmark from there.

Summary: On startup some local drives with bookmarks are not mounted -
when the drives are then mounted the bookmarks still do not appear in
the LHS pane as expected.

Best Regards
Jim

Open Nemo, bookmarks on non-mounted drives do not appear - OK No problem
Mount drive - boomarks do not appear - Ah ..........
Close & Reopen Nemo and the bookmarks now appear in LHS pane.

Thank you to whoever made the appropriate change wherever it was - that
is now much more useable.

Just a note (trying not to be too greedy!) - it would be very nice to
have the bookmarks appear automatically in the LHS pane when the drive
is mounted!

Hi Jim,

I'm going over some of the old cinnamon/nemo bugs that are open
and I came across yours. Back then I hadn't been able to reproduce
your issue, but you mentioned that the behavior had improved.

Can you tell me if the behavior is now correct or is it still missing

the automatic update of the mounted folders?

Regards,
Marga

Hi Margarita

Thank you for checking up.

The problem doesn't happen to me now because my Internet connection (for
the Router VPN to the remote NAS) is much more stable and therefore the
mounts generally succeed every time I start my system.
When a tree branch brought down my telephone line a few weeks ago the
same issues occurred but was of not concern because issues were expected
- however I am now generally using NFS whereas I used to use Samba and
the report was a long time ago.

Just to check "quickly" today I disabled the VPN link on the router and
rebooted my machine - a time consuming process because all the
"dismounts" on shutdown and "mounts" on startup then have to go through
their time-outs before the system responds!
However - after reboot the NFS bookmarks for remote folders do not
appear on the LHS pane of Nemo (v2.2.4) - if I "Edit Bookmarks" and try
to connect it fails because there is no automatic remount
When I re-establish the VPN and click on an SMB bookmark that mounts and
displays OK

Really the annoyance is that a Bookmark isn't displayed if the target is
not accessible at startup
In my way of thinking - if I define a bookmark then I expect it to be
displayed - the bookmark could show, say, a red X if it is not available
but that isn't important (I am human and I generally know if it is
likely to be available). If I click on it then I expect the system to
try to connect (because I click when I want to see it and I really don't
care what state it is in until I click - I am not in need of a Real-Time
status display) and then to let me know if it is not available.

Jim
Debian Jessie 64-bit
Gnome 3.14.1

About mounted device there was improvements/fixes in latest years,
bookmark seems working correctly on latest versions and minor issue
about "missed" bookmark remained seems only when use nemo with other DE
(not cinnamon).

Can you check with latest version please?
