This afternoon I got to meet Lloyd Kaufman and watch a screening of Poultrygeist: Night of the Chicken Dead!

Lloyd Kaufman, for those uninitiated is the president of Troma Entertainment and director of such movies as The Toxic Avenger, Tromeo and Juliet and Terror Firmer. They also hosted Newgrounds for a short time back in the early 2000s.

Poultrygeist is an excellent movie that I’d not seen since it originally came out back in 2006. It’s also probably one of the most disgusting movies ever made (in a good way!).

Before the screening I picked up a bunch of Troma movies on Blu-ray from the merch table. Either to replace my knackered old DVDs or to own for the first time. Troma films have for a long time been difficult to get your hands on here in the UK but recently Refuse Films picked up their physical distribution rights and have been putting out extremely high quality releases of these films. I’ve got their Cannibal the Musical release from the other year so was more than happy to pick up some more of their releases today.

Lloyd and his wife Pat were both lovely people and were both very excited to see me wearing my Newgrounds shirt. To the point where the organisers had to get him to move it along because he got caught up telling anecdotes about Newgrounds and Troma’s old partnership in and Tom Fulp’s appearance in Citizen Toxie.

Lloyd is a really great guy who you can tell absolutely loves his fans. He was genuinely excited to meet everyone today and seemed to have had a great time in the screening and Q&A portions of the event. If you’ve somehow never seen one of his movies I would urge you to check them out! They’re some of the most fun movies you’ll ever see. They’re also really inspiring for what he was able to pull off on a budget of about 50p and a prayer.

They used to put up full versions of their movies on their official YouTube channel but it looks like they’ve taken that down now and replaced it with this Troma streaming service: https://watch.troma.com/

A lot of the films can be found on sites like Amazon Prime as well if you have that.

If you’re into physical media definitely check out the Refuse Films releases because they have an insane amount of effort put into them: https://www.refusefilms.com/collections/tromarchive
