Power BI Desktop freezes when saving

Hello,

Starting today, Power BI Desktop freezes every time I try to save.

This happend to me and at least one other colleague.

The freezing does not prevent the saving itself so far, but I need to restart Power BI Desktop after each time I save my Report.

Has anyone had a similar issue so far or any suggestion to resolve it?

Anyone else had any luck with March update? Is it really still not fixed?

Hello everyone, i don't have found any MS Update for March 2025. For your information the Version from begin March was [Version: 2.140.1476.0 64-bit (February 2025)] now is it [Version: 2.140.1078.0 64-bit (February 2025)] But important, also this Version is not solving the problem. ๐Ÿ˜ž I have tested this and rolled back to January again.

Same issue with the 3-31-25 update, across multiple reports.

I have since yesterday Version: 2.141.1253.0 64-bit (March 2025) but the issue remains + new one: style preset not found (we are using a own layout style, colors-fonts,borders....)

Same issue, March version. All reports, upgraded VM memory as I thought this was the issue. Issue remains.

@itismie @dcrow5378 may as well just roll back to January installation of Power BI Desktop - because Microsoft has seemingly swept this one under the rug

We have potential fix coming soon - meanwhile there are couple of things you can try:

  1. Looks like this issue affects scenarios when Power Query window is open - so try closing the PQ window before Saving report
  2. Try to set the following user Environment variable: PBI_fastBusyDialog=0
Close PBIDesktop, Go to Windows Environment variables > User variables > New >
    Variable name: PBI_fastBusyDialog
    Variable value: 0
...and close Environment variables before starting the PBIDesktop)

Thank you for the attention to this. Regarding option 1, we used to be able to save from PQE without having to close and apply. This was valued as sometimes, along the way of loading to the model errors would occur. Knowing we've saved all of the M code by saving in PQE was valuable to know our Mcode was safe in the event of a crash when pushing to model. I'm not sure why that feature was removed, but that's changed my behavior, wanting to save before closing the PQE.. and now getting this bug.

I was never using PQE in the first place, so I'm not sure how that applies

@victorar What do you mean with option 2. We noticed that like mention in option 1, that when you leave PQE open or when you are doing multiple changes in PQE that the PBI is freezing. So now we are doing 1 thing each time - not really workfriendly, but it the freezing is not more often.
