Power BI Desktop freezes when saving

Hello,

Starting today, Power BI Desktop freezes every time I try to save. 

This happend to me and at least one other colleague.

The freezing does not prevent the saving itself so far, but I need to restart Power BI Desktop after each time I save my Report.

Has anyone had a similar issue so far or any suggestion to resolve it?

Option 2 seems to work but the explanation is actually cryptic, so I have a "translation" here Close PowerBI save
Step 1
Windows-Taste + R
Step2
"sysdm.cpl" enter in the input field
Step3
In the System Properties window, go to the Advanced tab
Step4
Click the Environment Variables button
Step5
In the User Variables section (above) click New
Step6
In the window that opens:
Enter "PBI_fastBusyDialog" as the variable name
Enter "0" as the variable value
-> click ok and close all windows start PowerBI new

The @afl68 reply worked for me. Not sure what Windows-Taste is but Windows+R worked.

I have the same problems, and nothing seems to help. I've done several rollback and the issues just remains. What should I do to solve this, any advice? - katina

@katinaAs mentioned, @afl68 was able to help post the fix for this and the same issue I had been experiencing for weeks with Power BI freezing. Adding the PBI_fastBusyDialog variable to the environment settings resolved the problem immediately.

To do this:

1. Click Start, then search for "sysdm.cpl" or "Edit the system environment variables."
2. Under User Variables (for your username), click New and add:
   • Variable Name: PBI_fastBusyDialog
   • Variable Value: 0

The latest build of Power BI Desktop (version 2.141.1754.0 published on 4/16/2025) has the fix for the random "Working on this" hangs while using Power Query window:

Same here, I had a query editor window open. I use Version: 2.141.1558.0 64-bit

Have been using the latest version 2.142.928.0 (4/22/2025) for the last two days with no issues. Issue seems to be resolved in the latest version.
