DW is expanding its portfolio with a new Georgian-language offering. Starting August 3, the new channel will provide Georgian-speaking audiences with coverage of developments in Georgia as well as major international stories. It will launch on Instagram, with expansion to additional platforms planned at a later stage.

As part of the same initiative, FMM has established an Armenian-language offering, while TVP World has launched its Azerbaijani-language offering. Together, these complementary journalistic offerings will serve the three countries of South Caucasus and are designed to benefit from cooperation and content sharing.

The initiative aims to expand the reach of independent journalism across the South Caucasus and leverage synergies among the participating partners.

Building on the deepening strategic partnership between DW and FMM, DW Director General Barbara Massing and FMM CEO Marie-Christine Saragosse have stepped up efforts to secure European funding for joint journalistic projects.

The initiative forms part of the "European Information Shield Initiative," led by DW and FMM. With support from the European Union, the initiative seeks to strengthen independent journalism and counter disinformation in strategically important regions.

The project is funded for an initial period of 18 months and builds on the expertise and positive experience gained through the European cooperation projects ENTR and InfoMigrants, which are jointly operated by DW and FMM.

DW Director General Barbara Massing: "Independent journalism is a cornerstone of democracy and civic participation. Through our new Georgian-language offering and our collaboration with France Médias Monde and TVP World, we are reinforcing Europe’s commitment to free media and trustworthy information in a region that is deliberately targeted by disinformation campaigns and faces significant political and societal challenges."
