nostalgia

Image

Is it strange that nostalgia is arguably my favourite feeling?  It’s a strange feeling, kind of a peaceful limbo between happy and sad.  It’s a feeling that often motivates me into writing (and drawing and crafting, to a lesser extent).  I thought I’d compile a list of things that make me feel nostalgic, or things that I feel nostalgic about when I think about them… just to see if anyone else experiences a similar thing!

things that make me feel nostalgic

  • lilacs
  • swings
  • crusty, half-melted snow in March
  • turning cartwheels
  • reading under the covers
  • collard greens
  • hammocks
  • winter
  • fairy houses
  • leaf piles
  • sidewalk chalk
  • climbing trees
  • being barefoot outside
  • narrow dirt roads
  • rain

found videos

Hello, yes, I realize that I did not write a charity post earlier this week when I should have; I will do my best to maintain that promise next month.  Now, however, I have three videos to ramble about for little reason other than that they’re cool and they make me feel things. In the creative writing course I took last year, our profe talked about the inspirational quality of “found photos”: the idea that finding photos of people you don’t know and places you’ve never been can often spark creativity.  I just happened to have found these videos which, like found photos, are quite intriguing, so I thought I’d share them…

First, a video from one of the YouTubers I subscribe to which really speaks to me with regards to the general writing crisis I live in:

Second, an amazing video that one of my friends posted on facebook this morning, in which an incredibly talented man sings Frozen‘s “Let it Go” in the voices of twenty-one classic Disney characters–smoothly and dead-on.  Trust me, it’ll have you smiling from the first note.

And finally, Hank’s puzzlingly beautiful vlogbrothers video from yesterday:

I can’t explain why this last video affected me so much–maybe I didn’t realize Montana was so… open… or maybe I don’t watch birds as much as I should.  But this video gives me a feeling that’s strangely close to nostalgia and makes me want to be exploring outside in open spaces rather than cooped up in the city.  Hope you find these videos as interesting as I did!

Bonus, an absolutely mesmerizing gif that showed up on my tumblr dash a few days ago:
