Course information
This course is delivered through three sessions designed to help experienced teachers lead professional learning in their own schools, particularly when supporting early career colleagues. It focuses on building confidence and sharing best practice in delivering practical chemistry lessons.
The course is highly practical and discussion-based, giving participants the opportunity to share experiences, reflect on challenges and learn from one another. Each of the three hands-on sessions are designed to be delivered back in participants’ own departments.
- Wow demonstrations (session 1): learn how to carry out exciting but potentially hazardous demonstrations safely, and how to support early career teachers in doing the same.
- Managing challenging classroom practicals (session 2): explores how to run complex practicals while keeping pupils safe and engaged, and how to help new teachers manage these lessons confidently.
- Adapting practicals for diverse learners (session 3): find out how to make experimental work more inclusive and accessible, without compromising on rigour or safety.
Participants will be given access to all course materials, including experiments, handouts, PowerPoint presentations, and recommended further reading.
