What our guests say
See what our guests have to say about their unforgettable experiences aboard the Galapagos Sky!
I never imagined that there could be sooooo many hammerhead sharks in one place, plus some whale sharks too, WOW!
What an amazing trip we had on the Galapagos Sky! We are so glad we chose the 11-day itinerary and the week proved to be perfect! Loved the boat, loved the crew, loved the focus on education with the briefings, and was spoiled from all their attention! Perfect choice for us.
Luis was the one who made my stay the most comfortable with his care and attention to detail. Our chef was incredible—everything was delicious with a fine dining presentation and very healthy. Excellent! Beyond our highest expectations! I’ve never seen such dedication and pride by the team.
The team was great and work as family. Truly one of the best liveaboard I have been on. They all treated you as family, you don’t see this on other liveaboards.

The entire crew was amazing - Max and Solon really made us feel at home underwater and the crew is like a well oiled machine. This is diving at its finest, in the most beautiful place on earth. Thank you sky team!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Galapagos liveaboard diving experience like?
A Galapagos liveaboard diving trip is one of the most extraordinary underwater adventures in the world. You’ll spend multiple days aboard a fully equipped Galapagos dive boat, traveling between remote islands and dive sites that are otherwise inaccessible. These voyages allow divers to encounter large schools of hammerhead sharks, manta rays, whale sharks, and other pelagic species, making it the best Galapagos liveaboard choice for serious underwater enthusiasts.
In addition to world-class diving, many itineraries also include Galapagos snorkeling tours and nature excursions to observe the islands’ unique wildlife, such as marine iguanas, sea lions, and blue-footed boobies. The liveaboard format allows for early morning and late afternoon dives when marine activity is at its peak, offering a richer experience than land-based options. A Galapagos scuba diving cruise provides both comfort and access, turning your time in the archipelago into a seamless adventure above and below the surface.
What marine life can I see while diving in the Galapagos?
This experience is a great opportunity to observe some of the most coveted marine species on the planet. The archipelago’s nutrient-rich currents attract large pelagic species such as schools of hammerhead sharks, Galapagos sharks, eagle rays, and even whale sharks (especially near Wolf and Darwin Islands). You’ll have access to these excellent dive sites and enjoy multiple dives per day in this marine biodiversity hotspot.
In addition to the iconic sharks, divers and snorkelers often spot sea turtles, playful sea lions, marine iguanas, and huge schools of fish. If you enjoy shallow-water activities, snorkeling in the Galapagos offers its own magic, especially near the volcanic rock coasts teeming with colorful reefs.
What is the difference between a liveaboard and shore diving?
The main advantage of choosing a liveaboard is access. Most legendary dive sites, such as Wolf and Darwin Islands, are located far from the main islands and are only accessible by Galapagos dive boats. These remote locations offer the most exciting marine encounters, from diving with sharks to drifting alongside enormous manta rays.
Shore diving has a more limited scope and often involves long daily trips. A liveaboard offers convenience and efficiency, maximizing your time in the water. Plus, diving on a Galapagos liveaboard gives you a fully immersive experience with back-to-back dives, onboard briefings, and the camaraderie of like-minded divers.
What is the best time to dive on a liveaboard in the Galapagos?
It depends on what you want to see. Whale shark season runs from June to November and offers incredible encounters at sites like Darwin’s Pillars. These months are also characterized by cooler water temperatures and stronger currents, attracting large pelagic sharks to the area—an unforgettable experience for any shark diving enthusiast in the Galapagos.
From December to May, the sea is calmer, the water is warmer, and visibility is better. This period is ideal for spotting manta rays, sea lions, and a wider variety of reef fish. Regardless of the season, you can enjoy constant sightings of this iconic marine life year-round.
Do I need to be an experienced diver to dive on a liveaboard in the Galapagos?
Yes, the Galapagos is generally recommended for advanced or experienced divers. Currents can be strong, visibility can vary, and many dive sites are deep, requiring good buoyancy control and comfort in open water. For this reason, most operators require a minimum number of logged dives and recent diving experience.
That said, diving in the Galapagos is incredibly rewarding for those up for the challenge. Aboard the best liveaboards in the Galapagos, you’ll receive detailed information and support from expert dive guides who understand the complex local conditions. If you’re not yet ready for advanced diving, some itineraries include more moderate dives or snorkeling tours, which offer stunning wildlife encounters with less technical demands.
What kind of accommodations can I expect on a diving cruise in the Galapagos?
Diving cruises in the archipelago range from comfortable mid-range boats to luxurious vessels, all tailored for divers. Most offer air-conditioned cabins with private bathrooms, along with ample communal areas such as lounges, sun decks, and spacious dive platforms. Onboard dining is typically included, with menus designed to support active dive days with nutritious and satisfying meals.
Higher-end options provide added perks like hot tubs, camera workstations, and even Wi-Fi, enhancing your overall experience at sea. These boats are more than just transport — they serve as floating retreats where you can relax between dives. Whether you’re there for shark encounters or simply to enjoy nature, the accommodations ensure your journey is both adventurous and comfortable.
Which dive sites are typically included on a scuba diving cruise in the region?
The most sought-after itineraries focus on remote northern islands like Wolf and Darwin, home to massive schools of hammerhead sharks, manta rays, and even whale sharks from June to November. These areas are inaccessible from land-based operations, which is why boat-based diving trips are the ideal way to explore them.
Other frequently visited sites include Cousins Rock, Punta Vicente Roca, and Cabo Douglas, each offering unique encounters — from marine iguanas feeding underwater to playful sea lions and colorful reef fish. With multiple dives scheduled daily and optional snorkeling sessions, you’ll be immersed in one of the richest marine ecosystems on Earth.
What safety measures are in place on scuba diving vessels in the Galapagos?
Reputable dive operators in the region adhere to strict safety protocols. Before each dive, experienced guides conduct briefings and equipment checks, and vessels are equipped with emergency oxygen, satellite communication, and first-aid gear. Many require divers to carry surface markers, computers, and in some cases, GPS devices for added safety in strong currents.
These trips are led by professionals familiar with local conditions and trained in marine rescue procedures. By choosing a well-reviewed provider with a solid safety record, divers can feel confident exploring even the most remote and dynamic underwater sites with peace of mind.

Galapagos Sky ticks all the boxes ✅
Ok, so the main reason for going is the diving and that was great ✅ What makes it better is having good guides and a boat that's set up for divers ✅ Then there's the food and the crew who manage to keep everyone well fed and happy ✅ Finally, there's the guests that we share our experiences with and I was fortunate enough to also be able to give a big ✅
One of the most amazing experiences…
One of the most amazing experiences ever. I highly recommend this trip. The best diving, whale sharks, hammerheads en masse, sunfish, diving iguanas, shoals of fish the size of a football field, seals, dolphins, Extremely knowledgeable and caring staff. Great food and company. The night sky with no light pollution - we were in the midst of the Milkyway. I will be back.

A 5+ star diving experience aboard the Galapagos Sky
We spent an amazing 10 days in the Galapagos, diving with the Galapagos Sky and I can't say enough good things, or use enough superlatives, about our experience! True comfort, friendly crew providing amazing service, delicious food, knowledgeable guides and, of course, incredible up-close encounters under the water. The vessel is very comfortable and outfitted perfectly for diving, with plenty of comfortable space for those who want to skip some underwater time and just relax in or out of the sun. The dive guides were extremely knowledgeable and attentive, and became like an extended family. I was the least experienced diver on our trip and Natasha and Quiko both went above and beyond to make sure I didn't miss seeing a thing - including a close encounter with a whale shark or two! Sitting in the rocks under water surrounded by hundreds of hammerheads, or swimming with a colony of playful sea lions - each dive was exhilarating! The crew were also extremely helpful. We welcomed their help in suiting up and getting our gear together before and after diving. Coming aboard after each dive they spoiled us with warm towels and hot beverages, and hot showers - truly 5-star service. I would be remiss if I didn't mention how delicious, and plentiful, the food was! Any special request was readily accommodated by the chef or the bartender! We are experienced travelers and divers, and this wasn't my first trip to the Galapagos, however our time aboard the Galapagos Sky was extraordinary!
