New feature: API to exit program

I'm looking for a way to programatically exit through the api.. it doesn't look like this exists. Is there any reason this shouldn't be added?

I can add it, but wanted to check it would be accepted first.

There are no APIs for exit although I think that may be good idea. You can also call OS level API to terminate the process.
