Your input has played a pivotal role in shaping the products and features we ship. 🚀

As Copilot continues to evolve, so does this community. With all the new features, releases, and ongoing discussions, we recognize that navigating the growing Copilot category might have become a bit challenging. Do you agree?

We’d love to hear your thoughts:

• Have you found it difficult to locate specific discussions or topics?
• Would it be helpful if we introduced subcategories to organize discussions more effectively?

Here’s a draft of what these subcategories could look like: (in no specific order or priority)

• Copilot Integration (e.g., Copilot in GitHub, PRs, Issues, and more)
• Copilot Workspace (e.g., tips, tricks, and workflows)
• Copilot for Business and Enterprise (Copilot for Business and Enterprise specific discussions)
• Release in Preview (focused feedback on previewed features)
• Copilot Models and Responsible AI (AI ethics and responsible Copilot usage)

We want to be completely transparent—this is just an idea 💡 . We’ll only move forward with these changes if there’s a real need for them, as indicated by you, the community.

@Akash1134, thank you for bringing this to our attention. In my view, the combination displayed in your posted image might be slightly more intuitive to navigate, particularly when quickly distinguishing between Integration and Workspace questions. However, I appreciate the clear separation between GitHub-related Copilot features and IDE usage.

My 2 cents - For General Discussion, the sub categories you've suggested look good and can be shown through Labels.

If the discussions are related to Certification & Exam Preparation, I would like it to be categorized by the Exam Domains. Having more granular Labels like ExamPrep, PrepQuestions & CopilotChallengeFeb25 can make current & past discussions easier to find.

I particularly liked the model you suggested in the image, I believe it can make it easier to find Copilot content. I'm thinking if it would be interesting to include something like "Troubleshooting and Q&A", but it can be also included in the specific subcategories.

It's a great initiative! I'm not gonna lie, I've already missed content that ended up lost between other posts (the lost kingdown of the third page 🤣)

First of all sorry for the late reply.

Personally, I think including subcategories in the Copilot discussion section would be a game changer and here's why:

There are many threads about Copilot in the Community, however, many of them differ in terms of the topic itself, for example; many users ask about Copilot PRO included in the Student Developer Pack, more specifically about how to redeem it once the benefits are available, as well as many discussions about invalid token errors or concerning Copilot Chat. Therefore, I think including subcategories would be beneficial, as it would make it easier for users to navigate discussions based on the specific subject.

I agree with having more granular label filtering as @mvark mentioned and I also believe the categorization suggested by @jccampanero is a very good starting point.

Subcategories sound helpful to me. I poked around in the existing category list and it doesn't look like any of the categories already have subcategories? Sounds generally helpful to GitHub discussions, but if it's already present somewhere, I'm interested to take a look to help inform my opinion.

What about Copilot security? I think, it could help us understand and clarify scope and out of scope , eg, how could integrate with GHAS and other vendors or opensource security tools' so on!

To improve Copilot, I’d suggest focusing on more intuitive context awareness in code suggestions, especially for larger codebases. It would be helpful if Copilot could better understand and adapt to a project’s coding style and conventions. Additionally, enhancing documentation and offering more targeted, in-depth explanations of suggestions could empower users to learn while coding, making the tool even more effective.

Hey @Akash1134 bhaiya, thanks for asking! 😊 The proposed subcategories look well-structured and would definitely make it easier to navigate discussions in the Copilot community. I especially like the idea of 'Copilot Integration' and 'Copilot Workspace' being separate since it helps distinguish between GitHub-related features and workflow-related discussions.

Additionally, a 'Troubleshooting & Q&A' section could be useful to quickly find solutions to common issues without searching through multiple threads. Also, @juanlujand’s suggestion about 'Copilot Security' is great—it would be helpful to understand how Copilot integrates with security tools like GHAS.

Overall, this is a fantastic initiative, and I’m excited to see how the community evolves!

Thank you very much for allowing us to share our opinions on this subject.

As mentioned by you and the different participants in the conversation, indeed Copilot has enough substance to allow its categorization.

Regarding the categorization itself, the one indicated in the image you presented is very good. Perhaps it could also include the option suggested by @juanlujand about 'Copilot Security'.

In any case, an alternative categorization could be as follows:

• What is Copilot? For general questions about the product. This could include, in addition, for example, characteristics of the different models available in the product, etc.
• Copilot on GitHub: to address topics related to using Copilot on GitHub.
• Copilot in my IDE: to address topics related to integrating Copilot with different IDEs such as VS Code, Visual Studio, etc. Perhaps this category could be further divided. Maybe the Copilot CLI could be included here as well.
• Privacy in Copilot: describing issues related to data usage, training, etc.
• Different types of Copilot: free, business, and enterprise. Or alternatively, Copilot in my organization, or something similar.
• News and new features, previews

The order in which the categories are listed is not relevant.

I hope this helps to provide some ideas on top of the ones already provided.
