Please help, I'm new.
I need to download a patch.

I enter my username and password correctly, but I can't log in.
My account is registered using Google authentication.
I created a password in my profile settings specifically to be able to download the patch.

But when I enter my username and password, it says authorization failed.
I log in to https://github.com/ with this username and password, using my email address, and there are no problems either. But when downloading a patch, I can't log in, either using my username or my email address.

The "Proper" Fix: Create a Personal Access Token (PAT)
Think of a PAT as a special password just for your terminal.
Log in to [GitHub.com)
Click your profile picture (top right) → Settings.
On the left sidebar, scroll to the bottom and click <> Developer settings.
Click Personal access tokens → Tokens (classic).
Click Generate new token → Generate new token (classic).
Name it: "My Laptop" or "NVIDIA Patch".
Expiration: Set it to 30 days (or 90).
Scopes (Permissions): Check the box that says repo (this allows you to download/clone repositories).
Click Generate token at the bottom.

IMPORTANT: Copy that token immediately. You will never see it again. Save it in a text file or notes.
How to use it in the terminal
Now, go back to your terminal and try the command again:
Run git clone https://github.com/robertxyz/nvidia-egpu-patch.git.
Username: Enter Zuldek1994822.
Password: Do NOT enter your GitHub password. Paste the Token you just created instead. (Note: Terminal won't show characters as you paste, just hit Enter).

GitHub stopped allowing account passwords for Git operations (like clone, push, pull) back in 2021. Even if you set a password in your settings, it won't work for Git over HTTPS. That's why browser login is fine, but terminal commands fail with "Password authentication is not supported" or "invalid username or token."

I'd recommend any of the ways you decide to move forward with, among the three:

1. Switch to SSH

   • Set up an SSH key if you don't have one: https://docs.github.com/en/authentication/connecting-to-github-with-ssh/generating-a-new-ssh-key-and-adding-it-to-the-ssh-agent

   • Then clone with:

     git clone [email protected]:robertxyz/nvidia-egpu-patch.git
     

   Works silently forever.

2. Use a Personal Access Token (PAT)

   • Go to: https://github.com/settings/tokens
   • Generate new token → classic
   • Give it a name, set expiration (or no expiration), select repo scope
   • Copy the token (starts with ghp_)
   • Run the clone command, enter your username when prompted, then paste the token as the "password"

3. Even better: Use GitHub CLI

   • Install: https://cli.github.com
   • Run gh auth login and follow the browser prompts
   • After that, all GitHub Git operations just work

The repo is public, so any method works great. Personally, I prefer gh cli anyday.
