Improve documentation about tables

From the API docu it is not clear to me how to archive my goal.

I want to modify the format (text alignment, bold, italic, etc) of strings in a table cell.
E.g. I want all cells in the first row centered and bold because this is the header.

I played around but couldn't find a way.

hi @buhtz Could you please post the code you wrote?
My suggestion will be to get the first row (make sure it has a text -not an empty row-) then iterate over its cells and inside every cell set the properties and styles as you want, there is an attribute as a bold property in the Run class can be set as True to make it bold and that applies to italic as well.

I'm far beyond this question. I find a solution. But this doesn't solve the problem that the docu could be improved.

The docu about the relevant code can be found in buhtzology.report.DocxDocument. You might be interested in buhtzology.report.DocxDocument.dataframe_to_table(). But keep in mind that the class is not inteded to be used stand-alone but in combination with buhtzology.report.Report. The "structure" of a document is constructed as an instance of Report. Then you give that instance to DocxDocument and just do a DocxDocument.save().

I am trying something similar but have not strong programming skills in order to understand and reuse it.

For now, I was able to apply a predefined Word table style by using table.style = "Style name" as @scanny suggests here.
Beware his 9 years old example still used table style.style_id, but it raises a deprecation warning (now python-docx prefers you to use a style.name instead).

I still have not a clear understanding of how to manage the available styles.
Documentation has a lot of theoretical info but I agree with you that having some more practical example codes would improve a lot its understanding.

In theory, if you create your document by opening a preexisting template as suggested here or here, then you should be able to apply its styles later on (including your own table styles, if you have redefined them in that template).

But I haven't found any examples of how to open a preexisting document and apply to it the styles of another preexisting template.
I guess that could be a pretty common use case which worths an example code in docs.
