A downloadable game for Windows

For my fist major game project, I've decided to remake the first Touhou game.

This remake features new visuals, remixed music, new characters, and new modes.  This version adds two local multiplayer modes: co-op and versus mode, though keep in mind it's mostly meant to be casual, so the characters aren't perfectly balanced or anything! There are also other differences from the original, like easier action inputs.

Since this is a demo, it'll only go up to stage 10 and there aren't many unlockables.

Controllers are supported, however I have been made aware of some issues with Nintendo Switch Pro controllers (which seems to be an issue with Godot).  Also, just for this demo, key rebinding doesn't save (will be fixed for the full release).

As this is my first major game project, please be mindful of any bugs! It's been play tested pretty well, but you never know...

Special thanks to the play testers and to Dragoneex for the remixed music!

Touhou Project and the original game belong to ZUN/Team Shanghai Alice.

Updated a day ago, huh? What's new in this version?

Oh, there's nothing new.  I guess Itch counts making a post in the devlog section as an update? I just shared the new video I made about it there

Oh right. The one where you showcase the final bosses?

This demo is the definition of peak, looking forward to seeing Sariel and Konngara soon!

Great demo. I'm really looking forward to the full version!

Awesome!!!

Well, it's a demo, but it's amazing! The music, the graphics, omg, let's give a round of applause to the creator of the music and this fangame! I dreamed of this, thank you for creating it, I'll enjoy it a lot! I will wait for the full version with great patience.

By the way, (I don't mean to sound annoying or put any pressure on you) do you plan to bring out all five remastered games?

Thank you.

I'm just doing this game. I have no plans for any of the other ones.

This is excellent in every way so far. The only thing I'd change/add so far is the ability to switch between old and new graphics/music and to mix and match the two.

I'd like to have that but the fan work guidelines wouldn't allow it:

  • Anything that is extracted from official Touhou Project games.

Technically, I am already breaking this with a couple sound effects (which I might change), but that feels pretty minor compared to graphics and music.

Well there is always the posibility to ask ZUN. ^^'

Such a cool remake, and the extras are so fun! The music is super enjoyable too :> I really hope this demo will get a full version, good luck with development!

This was good and my I like the new characters. Yuuka's shot made the game easier for me. Keep up this good remake.

Overall, it's an excellent remake. It really feels like a modernized HRtP, without altering the original essence.

I only have two recommendations:

- Add autofire, it would really add a lot even though the original doesn't have it.

- The dash should be able to “correct” the trajectory if the player wants it to. Many deaths feel unfair precisely because of this problem.

I'd also like to add that I think the song remixes are fantastic!!

I Love Mima

This is a good remake of HRtP, new attacks (more variety appreciated), dialogs (lets see what part of canon/fanon Idunno is in). More refined physics of the ball and walls, more characters to play as.  I have some problems with it, but they stem from me playing original HRtP a lot and being used to its physics and hitboxes (why is yuugenmagan the bs boss here, in original i can no health lost it)

Still an enjoyable game

Thank you

Also I guess if you're really used to the original YuugenMagan, the new one could throw you off since I changed some of its moves (though most of that was done to make it easier, so funny that it ended up harder)

There's so many great things I could say about this, so I'll just mention a few. I am gonna ramble though. Firstly, the new arranges of the OST are great and set the tone of the game really well. Props to Dragoneex for making the Hell Stage 6 theme actually enjoyable to listen to (imo).  I love the metal theme they gave to Strawberry Crisis and Sailor of Time. The music room comments are also very ZUN-esque (lol). Then there's the gameplay. It's way smoother than the original, especially with the limited framerate of the PC-98, while still being very faithful to the original.  Controlling the ball is so much easier, and bombing is way more consistent thanks to it only being one key. Yuuka is slower and weaker, but being immune to bullets from above and having a wide shot pattern makes her more forgiving to play - I find that she's pretty fun to play with. The sprite work is also fantastic; I especially love what you did with M and F Singyoku (by the way I love the spawning-extra-orbs attack it does). Can't wait to see what the rest of the bosses look like, as well as their fancy new dialogue.

Also props for adding Yumemi, she's also my favourite character :D

I have no real complaints or constructive feedback, so sorry. But I would love to see some kind of dialogue with Singyoku. Anyway, good luck with development, this a very promising demo to me!
