Gen Con 2026 – Call for GMs!

M&M Game at Gen Con 2025

Mutants & Masterminds developer Alex Thomas, running a game at Gen Con 2025!

Greetings Folks

It is only the second week of 2026 and Gen Con already has us rolling initiative checks. While the show isn’t until the end of summer, prep is already underway. Last year Green Ronin had over 40 events and based on demand that wasn’t nearly enough, so we are looking to level up for Gen Con 2026. This is where you come in, in order to run all these events we need additional Game Masters and want to invite you to join our party.

Freeport in Fantasy AGE!

Who are we looking for?

New and experienced game masters who love our games and want others to know how cool Green Ronin’s games are.

How many games would I have to run?

As many or as few as you like, but I should note that Game Masters who run 3 or more, six player games will get a FREE GM Badge. Games at Gen Con are generally 4 hours long so you would still have lots of time to enjoy the convention.

What adventures would I run?

We can supply you with an adventure to run, or you can run an adventure of your own creation.

Interested in being a Green Ronin Gen Con Volunteer GM?

Please Fill out this Form so we can email you with information.

Did you GM for Green Ronin last Gen Con?

Send me an email and I can get you the event submission link

Got a question I missed?

Pop over to the Atomic Think Tank, or the GRAAD discord and drop your question. You can also email Jonesy at events@greenronin.com.

Cthulhu Awakens at Gen Con 2025

This could be your table!

City of the Serpent Queen: Why’d it have to be snakes…?

City of the Serpent Queen, an Adventure for Fantasy AGE

Available Now!

The release of the second edition of Fantasy AGE means more brave adventurers in search of opportunities for adventure, excitement, and opportunity, and that means…dungeons! Fortunately, Fantasy AGE Dungeons is here with self-contained dungeon-style adventures for the game.

City of the Serpent Queen is the latest in the Fantasy AGE Dungeons line: It is an adventure for a group of 7th level characters, designed to provide challenges greater than a starter adventure as the party ventures into a place where only the bold would dare to tread! The adventure features three full-page maps of the tunnel complex of the serpentfolk and the dangers the adventurers will find within.

Hostile serpentfolk have been staging raids on nearby settlements, and a number of people are missing, and presumed taken prisoner. Heroes have followed the signs back to the hidden cliff-side complex of ancient tunnels and chambers, willing to brave the serpents’ own lair. What they find may surprise them, for these are no ordinary serpentfolk, and this is no mere lair.

City of the Serpent Queen is a combination between stealthy investigation and bold battle against preternatural foes. The players should feel a sense of menace from the ancient lair of the serpentfolk and experience a growing realization that not all is as it seems within, until they learn the true nature of the so-called Serpent Queen and her followers. Although it offers opportunities for exploration and social encounters, the adventure is heavy on action, with the heroes progressing as quickly as they can through the underground city before the serpentfolk are able to corner or overwhelm them.

Do your Fantasy AGE heroes have what it takes to answer the call to adventure, raid the City of the Serpent Queen and rescue those trapped within its sinister coils?

City of the Serpent Queen is available now in the Green Ronin Online Store, and DrivethruRPG.

A Return to Highfalls Swale

Return to Highfalls Swale for Fantasy AGE 2nd Edition

Available Now!

When we published the second edition of the Fantasy AGE RPG, one question we heard was “What about the Highfalls Swale, the sample setting that was in the first edition?” Glad you asked!

The new edition of Fantasy AGE pivots to a meta-setting we call The Stranger Shores that connects a vast range of possible settings with a primarily mystical maritime means known as “the Deep.” So it made sense for the sample setting in the book to be more accessible by water than the land-locked Highfalls Swale. Thus we have Kassa Isle and Breakwater Bay, the setting for the introductory adventures “Set Sail for Breakwater Bay!” and “The Breakwater Curse”.

Still, the Highfalls Swale has not been forgotten! We are releasing Return to Highfalls Swale for the current edition of Fantasy AGE, a product that not only takes the original setting material and the “Choosing Night” adventure from the first edition and updates them, but adds a sequel adventure, “Sworn to Uphold,” that returns us to the characters and events of the fateful “Choosing Night” several years later. In this following adventure, the characters learn there was more to their Choosing Night adventure than they knew, and confront both personal tragedy and a terrible and growing threat to the whole region!

What’s more, we expand upon the setting of the Highfalls Swale and introduce ways to integrate it into The Stranger Shores setting, if you wish. Even if you don’t use it as a starting point for a new Fantasy AGE campaign—or a chance to revisit an old one—you can still use the setting and its characters and concepts with your Fantasy AGE characters who may be traveling from distant shores to come here. As noted, our Fantasy AGE Dungeon “The Menace of the Grave Warrens” also integrates well into the setting and “Sworn to Uphold,” allowing you to expand on and extend that adventure with a classic dungeon crawl!

Whether you got your start there on Choosing Night or you are a newcomer, we welcome you to Highfalls Swale!

Engine 3: The SAGE Issue!

Engine 3, the SAGE issue

Available Now!

This past weekend we released the third issue of Engine: The AGE Roleplaying Magazine. This is a special one, folks, because it includes a new take on the Adventure Game Engine, designed by Steve Kenson with some additions from myself: SAGE, the Simple Adventure Game Engine!

This issue contains the Full Rules for SAGE, and four settings: everything a reasonably experienced roleplayer needs to run or play it, except dice and something to write in, just like a core rulebook. On top of that, we included four settings to get you started, as the SAGE rules are setting neutral:

  • Guardians of the Key, a cinematic sci-fi SAGE setting where heroes wield ancient artifacts to liberate worlds from a secret Autocracy.
  • The Half Moon Department, where agents who transcend the realms of mortals, shades, and spirits solve crimes that cross supernatural boundaries.
  • Zarat Adventures, in a volcano-scarred land where heroes win no crowns, and honor is the only currency.
  • Transmigration, where an ecological apocalypse provides a strange form of liberation.

This issue wraps up with guidelines on converting between standard AGE games such as Fantasy AGE or The Expanse and the SAGE rules.

But you don’t have to rely on this post alone for information. We recorded the release event, where we go through the issue in detail!

Origins Yesterday and Today

Green Ronin at Origins!

Come see us in Booth #201!

Green Ronin will be at Origins Game Fair in Columbus, Ohio next week (June 18-22). You can find us in booth #201, so come on by and see us. As the show has gotten closer, I’ve been thinking of my and the company’s history with Origins. Green Ronin has been going since our founding in 2000, but the story starts a few years before that for me.

For its first 20 years, Origins moved around the country, landing in a different city each year. In 1995 I was two years into my freelance writing career and just starting my first company. Origins was in Philadelphia that year. This is a short bus ride from New York City, so I decided to go check it out. I had been going to Gen Con since 1989, but this was my first Origins. I scouted it out for my new company and hustled for freelance work. The following year Origins found a permanent home in Columbus and my old company exhibited there in 1996 and for the rest of the 90s. It became part of the rhythm of what we called the convention season back then. That was the period between May and September when most conventions happened (now there is no season, and it’s cons every month of the year). Origins and Gen Con were always our big shows and great places to sell new products hot off the presses. When I started Green Ronin, I planned our first release for Origins. 25 years ago, we debuted Ork! The Roleplaying Game. In 2001 we won an Origins Award for our second product, my d20 System adventure Death in Freeport. Many nominations followed, with wins for Black Sails Over Freeport (2004), Hobby Games: The 100 Best (2008), and Night’s Watch (2014).

I will admit that much of the aughts are a blur at this point, but we continued exhibiting at Origins as we transitioned out of d20 System and into more of our own systems, such as True20 Adventure Roleplaying, A Song of Ice and Fire Roleplaying, and Dragon Age. I generally found Origins to be a more social show than Gen Con, a better place for conversation and making contacts (a central meeting place, the Big Bar on 2, was also a help). We met many freelance writers, editors, and artists who later worked for us there. In 2012 Steve Kenson was a special guest at the show, and at the time Origins surprised GMs by having a guest show up in their games. So it was that Steve ended up playing in a Mutants & Masterminds event with a young Alex Thomas as the GM. Alex was mighty surprised to have the game’s designer show up to play, but he’s an excellent GM so Steve had a good time. This led directly to us hiring Alex for freelance work and eventually joining the company to work on the game he loves so much.

GAMA (the Game Manufacturer’s Association) is the organization that runs Origins. It has a professional staff but a volunteer board of directors from various segments of the industry. Both of my co-owners at Green Ronin, COO Nicole Lindroos and CCO Hal Mangold, served on the GAMA board for several years at different times. This was the very definition of a thankless task, but they thought they could do some good for the industry, especially in difficult times like the 2008 recession.

You will see all three of us at Origins next week. This is a great opportunity to pick up our latest Fantasy AGE release, the adventure series Lost Island of the Pirate Queen. We will also have print copies of the Technofantasy and Cthulhu Mythos supplements for the game. We will have print copies of all three issues of our Cthulhu Awakens zine, Dreadcrawls, which are useful for any Mythos RPG. And, of course, we will have copies of the 2nd edition of Ork! The Roleplaying game for its 25th anniversary. See you there!

One of the books that was severely delayed by the pandemic, Modern AGE Powers, is finally ready for download and preorder!

Modern AGE Powers is the definitive expansion for extraordinary abilities in the Modern AGE roleplaying game. Covering magic, psychic phenomena, superpowers gained through technological enhancements, mutations, or any other origin, and extraordinary items, this book provides support for everything from superpowered heroes to cyberpunk transhumans. Modern AGE Powers revises and expands previous treatments, bringing them together into a single resource.

  • Study new magical spells, arcana and related character backgrounds, professions, talents, stunts, and rules.
  • Expand your awareness into new psychic phenomena, disciplines, backgrounds, professions, talents, stunts, and rules for psychic duels.
  • Manifest extraordinary powers from any origin, from cybernetics and superheroics to fantasy ancestries, and gain new character creation options and talents for the empowered.
  • Get meta with your powers, with rules for modular and swappable powers, as well as teamwork that can be anything from an occult ritual to a special team maneuver.
  • Learn thaumaturgy, a new, freeform power set.
  • Discover a host of extraordinary items with arcane, psychic, and other origins.
  • Explore how to Game Master powers, including multiple campaign outlines for you to use.

While designed for Modern AGE, you can use the book with any Adventure Game Engine RPG, such as Cthulhu Awakens or Fantasy AGE, with a little forethought and the use of the included conversion appendix. This is also mostly compatible with prior treatments of powers in sources like Threefold, the Modern AGE Companion, and Cyberpunk Slice, though each of these has slight variations.

Bottom line: This probably has the largest set of character options in Modern AGE, perhaps the largest number of extraordinary items in any AGE book, and it has freeform magic, to boot.

Also, don’t forget that this May is Modern AGE May, so check out the sales!

Malcolm Sheppard makes an appearance on today’s episode of ThursdAGE to talk all about Modern AGE Powers. That’s today, at 2:00 PM Pacific/5:00 PM Eastern – catch it live or watch on demand on Green Ronin’s official YouTube channel!. Don’t forget to like and subscribe while you are there!

Now Available: Engine #2

Engine Issue 2!

Available Now!

Engine is the magazine for AGE System roleplaying enthusiasts, covering Blue Rose, Fantasy AGE, Modern AGE, Cthulhu Awakens, and other games using the Adventure Game Engine rules. Each issue includes a variety of resources for AGE gamers, from new creatures and character options to  scenarios. Engine #1 was a hit with AGE enthusiasts, and now the second issue is ready to go!

Dig into Engine #2 and enjoy the following:

  • Augmentations for Fantasy AGE: Reskin and expand Cyberpunk Slice to give your heroes arcane implants and sorcerous augmentations.
  • Playing AGE Solo: Tips on running Fantasy AGE and other AGE games solo, by an expert in the form.
  • The Screaming Summit A volcano-based encounter for Fantasy AGE.
  • Showdowns: Tests of nerve, battles of wit, and more in Modern AGE and other AGE games.
  • Enemies & Allies—The Schryker: A bloody-bladed automaton for Fantasy AGE.
  • Running for a Long AGE: Keep your campaign running with advice from the Game Master of the Abraxas’ Precipice
  • Rust & Bounty: A short adventure for Fantasy AGE with Fantasy AGE Technofantasy.

The AGE System makes it easy to graft, splice, and change up material from one game to fit another, or to tailor them for your Adventure Game Engine world. As Fantasy AGE and Modern AGE developer, I noticed the community was having a great time porting rules and ideas between games, and I pitched Engine to further that sense of community.

I’m happy to share Engine #2 with you now, and to tell you there’s more to come. We’re working on Engine #3 right now, and it’ll be…kind of a big deal for us? And maybe for you. I mean, would you be interested in an AGE RPG in the next issue? With multiple settings?

Cool. Until then:

And…

But wait! One more thing!

Be sure to catch ThursdAGE today at 2pm Pacific, 5pm Eastern where we’ll be talking all about the new issue of Engine!
