Throughout the years, the Customs and Excise Department (C&ED) has been upholding the role of gatekeeper and contributing to the stability and prosperity of the community by taking stringent enforcement actions against different kinds of illegal activities. In addition, C&ED fully recognises the importance of youth education and strives to enhance law-abiding awareness among young people through diversified publicity and education activities. In 2006, C&ED and the intellectual property industry have jointly rolled out the Youth Ambassador Against Internet Piracy Scheme (YAS). By engaging young people in combating against internet piracy and participating in various kinds of education activities on intellectual property rights protection, the YAS aims to cultivate respect for intellectual property in young people from an early age. Riding on the success of the YAS, C&ED is determined to further extend the scope of youth education to various Customs enforcement areas and introduces a new youth programme, “Customs YES”, to this end.
