Such a cute and fun game! I found the puzzle combat game a bit confusing initially but after a few matches, it really started to come together (if not a bit too easy). A difficulty setting would have been nice to force me to think a bit harder BUT easy is always good for a jam game.

Thanks for submitting!

Super fun and ridiculously cute!

fun and very cute indeed! Those monsters are welcome to hang out at the cutest dungeon, lol

That’s a nice combo of a crawler and a match-3 game with cute visuals.

The crawling part was pretty good, I didn’t have any problems with movement, the only thing that was not ideal is that you don’t chain movement in the “smooth” mode it seems. Though you can just hold the forward key and that solves everything.

The combat system was a bit confusing at the start, as you discover what each orb does, but when I’ve discovered that you can move any orb to any cell the game became so easy. It still took an hour to beat though, I feel like there were almost no challenge, but the amount of encounters was a bit too much.

I love that you have a town where you can upgrade your party, that adds a lot of depth. But again, after upgrading and figuring out the combat the game was trivialised.

The music in the battle was super chill, very fitting the casual match-3 atmosphere, and visuals were cute, again, very fitting.

Here’s my play-through:

Thank you so much the detailled feedback, and for sharing your whole playthrough. It's really insightful! I have regrets about the trivial difficulty, but I was tired and didn't have the energy to balance it better. You're right about the pacing, I'll try to make it better post-jam to get better at it.

This was a very cute entry. The match3 was enjoyable and it became better when I realized I was not constrained to swapping adjacent orbs only, hah. All the subconscious conditioning that match3 games have done on me made me not even try that for a long while...

The upgrade and leveling system was super interesting, as was the party adjustment system, each giving you different orb options. Controls were good, combat felt nice (I would've liked faster or no transitions when going to/from combat, think that was the only "slow" thing), the automapper was awesome to have.

Developer

Thanks for the kind words! I actually have zero experience with match-3 games so I took a huge risk implementing that, but I'm glad it turned out fun. I had fun playing with shaders for transitions, but in hindsight I agree that the combat transition would be snappier at 2x speed. Thanks for playing!

Cured the elder dragon! Cute game! Cute dungeons and dragons! Pleasantly surprised by the match 3 combat, the pace might be a tad too slow but it might be just me talking. Swapping any 2 orbs instead of only adjacents might make the combat too easy, but maybe with the amount of dark orbs there are, the board will be reset much more often. Awesome!

Hey, thanks for playing through the whole game! Given more time, I would have made combat more challenging, but I wasn't sure of the pace either, and wanted to keep things snappy. I'll spend some time balancing things after the jam.

Fun game, great graphics! I was afraid the combat  would be super slow and take a lot of time, but I found it reasonable fast and straight forward. Even though one of my companions died once or twice there were not really any danger of dying. Upgrades of orbs was cool feature as well as the orbs connected to each unit.

Nice!

Developer

Thanks for the nice words! I was too tired to balance difficulty well at the end, and decided to keep things easy so I could go to sleep lol. Glad you enjoyed the graphics, they are not my strong suit and took me a lot of time. Thanks again!

At first I was like, "Hmm im just gonna play the first level because it's just mach  3" and ended up finishing the game... Well Done!

Really loved the cute art style, and everything is smooth and working as expected. The upgrade system is fun too! I didn't end up changing mons from the start but it was fine and could do the whole game with a fire team.

Developer

Thanks! I wanted to try something different this time and took a risk with match 3 especially because I don't like that mechanic myself, so I wasn't sure if my game was remotely fun. I regret nerfing the difficulty so much just before submitting, but it was late and at that point I just wanted to sleep!

Glad you enjoyed your playthrough!

This game has such charm, a really lovely playing experience. I got a great deal of enjoyment playing this one, as it's bit more of a relaxed, feet up and go at your own pace sort of adventure.

At first I was playing like Candy Crush or those sorts of games, in that I was only trying to swap adjacent orbs. But then I realised I could swap any orbs across the board. I'm not sure if that's normal or expected but I certainly was able to get bigger combos and chains that way. I may well have missed or glazed over some explanation though!

The art is perfect for this type of game. The music and SFX are equally fitting. I had a great time with this one, thanks.

Thank you very much for the kind words! I'm glad you enjoyed the relaxed pace of the game. I actually don't have much experience playing candy crush or other match-3 games so I tried to code the battle system without any preconception, so being able to swap any 2 orbs is indeed by design. It's not explained anywhere, so it may not be obvious enough at first glance.

Thanks again, I really enjoyed your game, too!

God damint, I typed a long comment for your game and then itch problems. AHHHH! Okay…please implement a fullscreen button, the window is very small on a 4k screen. Kudos for using something not Godot or Unity! The game plays very well and movement is snappe. The graphics are very nice and the Dragons are super cute. The music and sfx fit the game very well. The battle system is an innovative implementation of the RPS theme and the leveling system even allows for grinding, which is oddly missing from most entries in this jam. The guardians can hit rather hard ;) My wife and I really enjoyed playing your game.

Developer

Ah, thanks for typing all of that all over again! Your kind works are very encouraging to me, I'm glad you enjoyed playing! There is actually a way to toggle fullscreen, you can press ESC at any time to bring the Options menu, where you can toggle things like fullscreen and instant/smooth movement. I realize it's not obvious enough beside a tiny text in the corner of the title screen (which might even have been unreadable on a 4K screen). I'll add thart information on the game page.

Thanks for playing!

The elder dragon is free from their curse.

I had a lot of fun playing. The tunes are super nice, I really like the environment tilesets and the dragons sure are cute.  Movement also feels notably good. Assembling a party from an eventually big roster was fun and so was spending my gold the way I wanted, the questions at the beginning are a nice touch. Finally I enjoyed the combat even if in practice it was overall easier than I would have preferred.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you liked it! I spent so much time making the assets and polishing the visuals and animations that I barely had a cohesive game when Saturday evening came, so there was not much time left to do a lot of testing and balancing. I ended up lowering the difficulty as I was afraid that combat would feel repetitive, too.

Your comment about movement feeling good is a huge relief, it's rewarding to read that after spending a few months coding a new engine in python. Thanks again!

Very fun game! Our music director got legitimately addicted. However you don't lock out player movement while loading into the level but you also don't load collision for the walls at the beginning so I accidentally got stuck outside of bounds for the final battle and couldn't get back in

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your kind words, and thanks a lot for mentioning that bug too! I remade my engine from scratch using a new framework, that's an oversight I'm gonna want to fix.

At the very least it's not completely game breaking since you can edit your save file, I left a note on the game's page. Thanks again!
