The game has a very fun concept! However, I feel like it could really benefit from being a bit more intuitive. I didn't notice the little white dots and lines, so it took me about 7 minutes to understand how to fold the origami. And I got stuck trying to understand how to do the secret instruction. I would love to see it improve, though! I also liked the fact that you made a whole story, it really makes me feel curious. Why did Steve have all this stuff? What is he trying to do? It's a pretty creative idea. I think that maybe adding a tutorial, or some sort of explanation, would make the game even better!

Developer

Haha the idea behind Steve was to make him an excuse for a tutorial/hints, and also make a small joke out of the game. He was supposed to feel that you were completing the circle, and as you go, the game would have made you think that you were about to make something big happen, something dangerous, but in the end, you would see that the only thing Steve is doing with his magic is to make cute little paper animals alive x)

Though all that Steve part was a lower priority compared to the rest of the game, that's not even completely finished given the valid issues you raised. We'd have liked to implement more! We'll manage our time better for the next jam, and we have some plans to try to continue to work on it, if we got time!

Thank you!

Awww, that's so cute!! I didn't manage to ocomplete the game, so fully expected it to go horror lol. I bet Steve is just shy about his origami hobby.
I hope you do continue to work on it, I see a lot of potential!

This is a really cool game, and the sound design is really good, though I felt that the sound of the crystal clanking around was a bit too loud. The origami models were also pretty good.

The camera angle did feel a bit weird to me, I also noticed that there are no walls to the right or left of the player, and you can just see off into the vast emptiness.

If you ever expand the game, one thing that would be cool to see is different crystals that could be used to change the origami into different things instead of just the one.

Developer

Thank you!

We went through some time issues haha. All your points are valid points, and are stuff we planned on doing better, but didn't have time to do so haha. We'll do better in our next jam!

The base idea was to have different actual material to apply on the paper instead of having gems getting absorbed like that. All the background stuff, like the desk and the wall has been made maybe 4 hours before deadline, the sounds implemented 1 hour before the deadline haha. It was quite the panic x)

Thank you for the ideas! We have plans on trying to polish the game, at least, to be able to show it to people!

It still came out really well all things considered, most of the points I had were fairly minor and the core game is very solid.

I really liked this game. The graphics and models are very good, and I really enjoyed the sound alone without music. Folding the origami was very cool and calming, but they folding doesn't really look real and took me a bit to figure out.

Overall, great work!

Developer

Thank you! We agree that the mechanic is a bit unclear at the beginning, we lost a lot of time at the beginning with some breaking bug that we couldn't figure out how to fix, and then it ate a lot of time for actually trying to make the game understandable sadly haha

I ran into some bugs that I had to restart to get past (it's possible to spawn multiple sheets of paper on the folding area, which makes a big mess), but once I got past that, and realized that the hidden symbol is wrong for the crane, I was able to finish it.  It's a really clever idea, and the win animation is adorable.

Thank you!

Yeah we got aware of the bugs. And we realized how unclear the game was when we showed it to people x) Thank you for bringing these to our attention! We definitely want to take some time to polish the game more.

Thank you for playing!

If the blue gem started glowing when it was time to apply it, I think it would be really helpful instead of having to check at every step.  Just a suggestion. :)

Good idea! The plan was to have the messages on the phone actually give you hints too, and gives you the possibility to look back at the history of messages to see what you needed to do after the game understand you're getting stuck

Folding the origami was a very calm experience, but I couldn't get the special origami to work.  The red crystal got stuck somehow and I couldn't pick it up.

Submitted

I think part of the issue I had was that I accidentally put down multiple papers and the crystals didn't seem to interact with them properly.

Developer

Yeah sadly there is a bug we didn't see during the jam. When you release the click of your mouse while it's on the phone, you sometimes summon another paper... that's so sad we didn't see that before haha. On one of the steps of both of the origami, before folding anything, you can bring the blue gem close. If you hold it, it will reveal one of the rune symbols. You then have to apply the red or the green gem during that step, and then continue on with the folding. We didn't have time to make it clear, apologies haha

Thanks for playing anyways!

I think it's amazing what you accomplished in 3 days.   My submission wasn't bug-free either.

Developer(+1)

I'll check it out as soon as I can!

Really well crafted game! I couldn't really figure out much but thats most likely a me thing, its amazing how this was made in only 3 days.

Developer

There are hints in the description of the itch page if you wanna figure out stuff. The pay off is actually worth it. We sadly didn't have time to add hints in the game haha. Thanks very much for the comment!
