I pretty much echo what others have said below, the gameplay is a bit finnicky with weird hitboxes and placing bombs didn't always work. The explosion effect is cool, but the sound effect a bit too loud so I had to turn it off. Visually this is really cool and I think the concept definitely has potential.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME TO WRITE THIS
Nice, I really like the style and environment of this game! It took me a little bit of getting used to, but once I got in a good flow it was really fun to play!
I think my only critique is that after blowing myself up and having to restart several times, getting to the objective did become discouraging after a while.
That being said, I can see the vision for this game, and I can tell you worked very hard to put this together for the game jam. Well done!
THANKS A LOT
I love the idea, I love the atmosphere, but the gameplay is a liiittle half-baked.
• The limited-oxygen serving as a timer is a great concept, but it drains too slowly to be a threat and is further a non-issue by how plentiful air bubbles are. Maybe if the neighboring rooms are all pitch black until you enter them could this current design be more rewarding. Currently, I can see all of the air pockets: I'm in no rush to ensure I can find air.
• Some hitboxes are inconsistent or misleading, namely the players' and the explosion tiles. The player being a 1x2 rectangle means you can go vertically through tunnels that are 1-tile-wide, but not horizontally that are 1-tile-tall. Honestly makes placing bombs kinda tricky. Further, when placing bombs down, the explosion hitboxes linger just a tad too long for my liking. Many times I found myself dying by walking into a visually-empty tile because the explosion is still technically active (the screenshake is the clue).
• I wouldn't say 600x480 pixels is really pocket-sized. That's like...normal game size in my experience. I couldn't fit that many pixels into my jeans!! D: A weak interpretation, honestly.
That all said, I do really enjoy what you've presented here. I love the fantasy-horror angle this takes, the threat being the player's own bravery and greed in finding the last scraps of gold that may or may not even be here. I would love to see this game expanded upon. Good work!
THANKS A LOT FOR THE EFFORT TO TAKE YOUR TIME AND FEEDBACK MY GAME, IN SOME DAYS I WILL RELAUNCH THE GAME TAKING ACCOUNT OF ALL THE FEEDBACK RECEIVED
Rather painful to play, but that sounds and visuals, you've definetely put a soul in it, art style is also great, simple yet satisfying
Haven't noticed anything bad with the frame rate. Interesting idea, and ofcource the explosion effect is pretty cool!
I really like the explosion effect, but there are some problems with the framerate, and the player's hitbox is too large, making it impossible to fit through a one-block gap. The oxygen system initially seemed intriguing, but the depletion rate is too slow, which diminishes its significance, especially with so many oxygen bubbles there are on the map
Yes, the explosion VFX with the shakes is epic.
Cool game, made me want to play Bomberman. Could be more enjoyable if the movement/frame rate is improved.
The explosion’s VFX is cool! It’s too bad that the wall hitboxes are a tiny bit too large, so one block destroyed doesn’t allow your character to go through. This forces you to reuse bombs for the same passage sometime, which seems unfair. The oxygen is a good twist on bomberman, I liked it!
I’m not a fan of that limitation’s interpretation, because it’s not included in the game. It’s just a setting you forced to be small. I would’ve loved to see the same game, but within a fake gameboy screen! That would definitely fit the vibe <3
