  • Interesting concept! Very whimsical, has good potential, especially with the simplistic, stylized art style! The somewhat joke music fits the mood of the game and I really enjoy the sound of the honk, it's a nice touch! The jumping is very awkward. It launches you up into the air, but only, what feels like, a few inches forward. It's a goose, give them a little more control in the air, sure, they might not have wings, but the game is silly anyway. The death animations of the enemies are not clear enough and take too long. Only way to tell if you have defeated them is to keep hitting until they don't make any sound. There should be a visual indicator of some sort, a health bar or a separate, faster animation. Input feedback. If the goose hits something, add an effect of some sort, it could even be a cartoony, comic-book "pow" that pops up when the hit connects with an enemy. All in all, well done, I thoroughly enjoyed the whimsy! Keep making cool things!

Summarise your game!
I'm really tired, I think the only thing I left out of the in game controls is "P" pauses the game. The mechanics were crazy work honestly, creating multiple collision objects just to make sure you only get one jump, until you touch the ground again. Honking does a fear effect, but because of the limited physics engine in Playcanvas, I have to make an array of raycasts. I also didn't do anything clever with programming it, no recursive calls, I don't even think I used a for loop, it was just hitting the feedback loop to see if my changes are coming through. Left and right click punches respectively, and if you make contact with an enemy, it pushes them back out of your punch range and makes a different noise. Programming the enemy functions was a several-day task that ended tonight when I recorded 6 voice effects, and only had the mental energy to implement one. They move around somewhat randomly, can retain agro after leaving their threatened area, and have a cycle of possible attack animations, or reaction animations (thanks mixamo). Also, because the main character is a goose, there was no way I was going to get an auto rigger or animator to work with it, so this was my first foray into the rigging and animating characters.

Please explain how your game fits the theme:
So, the theme being "you are the weapon" fit so well with the original Tobias model, seen a truly jacked goose, but our first thought was to make like a reverse duck hunt where the goose used feces to attack the hunters. And that was not only impractical but kind of gross. And we don't really know the lab could have been experimenting on Tobias to make him "the" weapon. I guess we'll have to see when level 2 drops.

Is there anything you'd like the judges to pay particular attention to?
Style points? I just hope I get a chuckle for this one.

The goose model was hilarious as was the twist on the stale super-soldier-experiment plot. I really wanted to get to the juice box but I couldn't manage the jumps. It felt very strange to have no forward momentum at all when jumping.

The background story and overall game were just hilarious. I second the part about the movement feeling unnatural and the enemy having no feedback animations on the enemies. You have already addressed these points in another comment though. You have earned my chuckle!

I just love the premise and the main character. Tobias, the goose that has no weapons outside of his own two guns. It's hilarious and weird and I love it.

I also really like the concept of the honk button. It's just fun being able to make an animal noise whenever you want. Would've been awesome if you had been able to implement the variations you were planning!

The objective isn't made quite clear. Having the Goose Juice be animated in the way it was animated did help a lot to point out what I should do, though.

It seems you guys had a rough fight with this one, but I'm glad you did it. I hope you were able to get some knowledge out of it. It's a stepping stone to making even cooler things. Have I said that I really like Tobias?

The concept is hilarious and awesome, just needs polish on the execution. Keep making stuff!

The game is super funny punching the all the crazy things. Hilarious concept and the low poly looks great here. The music with the honks in the background are hilarious! Punching Karen's with a Jacked Goose? Sign me up. Some critique I have is just around your controller. 1. I think you want to have a little bit of inertia when moving and jumping. Trying to parkour to the floating purple package was difficult not because of challenge but because most of your momentum just stopped upon hitting jump. A little bit of "coyote time" for jumps can also help. Specifically on web if I hit "ESC" to unfullscreen the game I wasn't able to get the screen to re-grab my mouse when I clicked again.

I think the premise is great, punching and screeching with the goose was hilarious. Work on polishing up the controller and it'll be a good time!

Great job y'all!

Yeah, a lot of this game came down to fighting timing for the animations and getting the movement physics 'good enough.' There are a lot of factors that play into that forward momentum and hang time, mass, friction, linear dampening, and linear factor. I was upset with the way it came out for the opposite reason, I feel like Tobias is sliding on ice everywhere. It also doesn't help that all the static surfaces could be set to different amounts of friction, so you would think that would help get a grip or be extra slippery on the rocks, but having less friction helped ascend slopes? My only physics game before this was a dice roller, so the learning curve for a 3rd person platformer was as intoxicating as it was infuriating.
I really didn't intend for it to be played fullscreen, and I could have made it where clicking does grab the mouse, but I wanted the player to be able to interact with a dialogue menu without punching. Looking back, it would have been trivial to check if a menu was open on a click. But also, this is my first time uploading to itch, so now I know.
I'm glad you enjoyed it, and thanks for taking the time to leave a review!

awesome game.

I punched one of the ladies and she took something out of her pocket and i thought it was a gun and I was very surprised lol. but it was just a phone. I got the purple thing floating over the rocks but i'm not sure if i'm supposed to kill all the people or if i'm looking for another objective on the map. Good job tho, made me chuckle :)

Developer

The purple thing is the goose juice and it opens the gate, and if you walk through the level ends and pauses the game to show your time. Fighting the people is actually optional, but the one Karen with the blue top has more health and should become aggressive if you walk in her path.
Thank you for the feedback :D

Silly idea. Who doesn’t want to click a game like that? A thing you could improve upon is player feedback. When I land a hit, when I got hit it all felt a bit disconnected from the animation. You made me laugh, good job!

Nice and Goofy. Punch line "Help Tobias get home, and punch a Karen." is absolute gold. Unfortunately didnt manage to scare anyone so I just punched them.

Thanks, I actually fired up your submission about a day ago, concerned that I was stepping on toes with a bird themed protagonist, but I realized we had drastically different games and jumped back into development before I got distracted. I really liked the PSX art style yours gave; I'll for sure have to give it more than a one minute browse.

Brilliant.
