Last month we held the second annual LittleJS Game Jam for games made using the open source LittleJS Engine that I first released about 4 years ago. A total of 160 people signed up, showing strong continued interest in LittleJS as we approach 4k stars on GitHub. Out of those that joined, 17 games were submitted. The theme for the jam was "Small".
I played through all the games live on stream and also created a short top 10 video to highlight the best games which were voted on by participants. Huge thanks to everyone who made a game for the jam! I'm happy to say that we plan to do it again next year.
Highlighted Games
Participants judged each other's games in 5 categories plus an overall category. The results are in and we’ve put together a short video showcasing the top 10 games from the jam. These games really highlight the creativity and skill of the community!
🐝 Bug&Bee by eoinmcg
Congrats to the first place winner and sweeping three categories: Overall, Gameplay, and Theme. This game is a retro shooter with a beautiful low res pixel art style and super fun arcade style gameplay. Works great on a controller and has 2 player co-op!
🏙️ Little Platformer by PSEMO, Solita666, GabrielRG, and Nate Sassoon
Coming in a close second overall and 1st in the Audio category! Fun and challenging platforming game with a cute story about rescuing your cat from city rooftops. This is a lengthy adventure with lots of gameplay variety.
🏓 Rogue Pong by webdevbrian
Coming in 3rd place is Roguelike crossed with classic pong gameplay. Earn Pong Bucks to purchase upgrades from the shop. The enemy AI also gets tougher each level and every 5 levels there's a boss fight.
There are so many other amazing games you really need to check them all out!
We are also excited to be donating $200 to the charity “Los Torres de Melo” on behalf of our first and second place winners. Details will be shared when the donation is made.
Thank you for supporting open-source software and being part of the LittleJS journey. Here’s to many more creative projects using LittleJS Engine! 🚂🚀
