I believe he has said he has been writing for many years, but this was his first time trying a story/game like this.

Thats going to be some issue between you and itch. Try the usual things: refresh cache, delete cookies, try different browser, maybe try different computer if nothing else is working... Occasionally internet downloads just get wonky with a specific configuration, and it can be frustrating to isolate.
the game is split for android so it doenst get too big for the 2gb limit. leaving the replay scenes from previous parts in would eventually mean there is no room for the story. As to why the first one covers so many more days, it is because as time goes by each day has had more content and renders. To your point about the gallery missing in part 3, yes that was an accident.
This game doesn't really have any variables to save except the player's name. In fact, this release added a new screen at the start of the game to let you play from any day you choose. If you had a save right before the afterword, the only thing you miss by starting a new game and picking "start at latest update" is the day transition screen you've seen each night.
I get that people like continuing their saves, but this kinetic novel is one of the most lenient and flexible games in the genre. The only things you would be missing on a fresh install are a save with your name already input, the unlocked pictures and scenes, and the notes in the character bios. And all of the extra stuff will be re-opened once you hit the afterword again.
You can move that in, too. That folder is specifically designed for patches- if a saved game can't find the right place in a script, it starts rolling back to somewhere it can correlate the save with the script. the Old Game folder is a previous version of the compiled scripts to work as an in-between bridge between a save and the current script, increasing the chance of success. If it still can't correlate, then you get the normal error about "couldn't find a place to stop rolling back."
This is a reminder (that will no doubt get buried in a few days) that the dev will not post download links in the comments. That happened once, and it was a bad time all around. Only the official itch download links will be used, and any further locations will be communicated through discord. Further, he most certainly wont use a random account to post the updates.
Visual Novels like this where there are little to no choices of consequence are often described as "Kinetic Novels". I notice the tag isn't listed on this page, but the "Gameplay" section states "Cosy Cafe is more story than game, with choices mostly limited to interaction in sexual encounters," which fits the idea of a Kinetic Novel very closely.
400 years ago, there wasn't much to talk about week to week. As life and society started moving faster with more petitioners and issues as the population grew, it became necessary to start meeting more frequently. It probably started out as monthly and slowly increased in frequency as the need arose. They also likely take some breaks.
These whispers were never revealed in game, but in the discord the dev has explained them. TL;DR, Lily said one of Sarah's sisters commented on how handsome the MC looked in a photo, and was thinking about asking him to the party if Sarah didn't. As for the one with Lucy, Sarah felt bad about running out on the King's Game and asked Lucy to remind her/call her out if she was spoiling group activities again.
This is normal. The game is split into separate distributables in order to stay under the 2 gb limit. Since this is a kinetic novel, none of your choices affect the story.
Once you finish playing part 1, start part 2. After that, play part 3. Saves between the parts are incompatible (they are on different days), so just start a new game and select the "start" of that part.
The gallery and replay only has content for that part (otherwise it would eventually take up the entire 2 gb limit and leave no space for new story).
I am assuming you are on windows 11 using the itch launcher? Have you tried running the game outside of itch? tried running the game or the itch launcher in admin mode? tried installing it without the launcher?
I'm not familiar with the itch launcher, but these are standard steps when something complains about access issues.
You are free to think what you like, but some of these are intentional decisions and some others are incorrect.
1. The facial expressions are more natural and subtle than other games. The dev chose to not use exaggerated expressions.
2. Day 2 Lucy talks in the kitchen and upstairs, looking at the MC. If that isnt good enough, day 3 on the train we sit next to her and she looks directly at us.
3. This is another choice by the dev. He doesn't like random mouthflaps, so he decided to not make renders of characters mid-sentence with an open mouth.
4. Generally, the transition from a clean render to a messy render is done with a white flash. This is by no means the only game like this to use this technique. If you mean animations in the latest update, those appear to be normal speed.
5. There are only so many modifiers to work with in the modeling program, and fewer still if one doesn't want abominations. Assets and models can be somewhat limited.
