Looks really great, just reading the 2nd edition and planning on finding someone to play it with, but there is a small error at the part where you give stats for the characters. You wrote "Narcissi Malfoy" instead of "Narcissa Malfoy". It's not really a problem, i just thought I'd tell you, so you can correct it when you update the book.

Probably the best HP RPG I've ever seen. I'm puzzled about the learning spells/potions mechanics though. One part of the book (2e, p40) suggests that you can improve a spell by just succeeding in casting it, but another part (2e, p31-32) suggests that you can't unless it will be in some specific circumstances. How it's supposed to be?

Both are correct. There are multiple ways to develop your spell work. Either by rolling when you try to cast spells during play (p. 40),  or by using Story Points (p. 31). There’s also the option to improve your spell abilities in the library, the classroom, and among your fellow young wizards (pp. 31–32), Multiple routes to the same goal. I’m glad you’re enjoying the game and thanks for your feedback. I’ll think about how to make that clearer. N.

I to am interested if a second edition is going to be available my group will wait.  Read thru the first edition and loved it!

The Second Edition is now available to download. I’d welcome any feedback you have :)

I just came across this and it's amazing! But I saw some comments about a second edition, so I don't want to dive deep into this one if a new version is just around the corner. Any updates on when we could expect the second edition to be released?

I’ve now posted the second edition here. The rules are pretty much the same as the first edition with a few additions and refinements. I welcome feedback :)

Wondering if anyone has tried playing a Solo version of this.  I've only scanned the rules at this point and will probably give it a go and see what feels natural, but any hints or thoughts are appreciated.

I've been trying to get my head around the time management concepts in the game.  Time seems to be a principle currency in the game just like  Story Points.  Has anyone created or seen a tool or method for keeping track of this for the Narrator?

Would I be able to make a non-profit game using this as the basis? I really like the rules and have nostalgia towards the HP setting, but have grown disillusioned with the franchise given Rowling's views on people like me.

Sure. Do whatever you like with it. If you end up posting your game online I’d be interested to take a look just out of curiosity. If my own small efforts encourage others to create their own games, that makes me very happy 😃

Hello, Neil Walker!

I am a polish indie TRPG content creator and I saw that your Character Sheet is not fillable - so just for fun, I made a Fillable Version for it because I mostly play online -> and it's easier to play with fillable .pdf

I sent you a copy on your email, so you may check it out when you got a time ;)
Much love from Poland

I like it! The quantity of the main Attributes is good, combat and spell learning feels exciting! But there are 2 small things that are for me are missing from this RPG.

Firstly, Quidditch. It is such a integral part of Harry Potter and the lack of concrete rules of it here is quite sad.

Secondly, wand cores. Here there have no use, just decorational. That's not a big issue, just my tendency for fully customizing wands.

Otherwise, I like it very much.

In the Russian version, these issues have been resolved.

I’m working on a Second Edition that includes both of those elements (and more). The first draft should be ready in two or three weeks. I’ll share it here when it’s ready.

The Second Edition is now posted and I welcome your feedback

I've been looking for so long for a good HP TTRPG, I got close a few times but I think this one might be it!
One thing though: the link to your website appears to be dead, was there any extra content on there?

Just a  couple of maps (Diagon and Knockturn Alley) which I’m going to include in the second edition. The first draft should be ready in the next two or three weeks.

So, basically DnD and Harry Potter in one.......... AMAZING!!! :D

Hey! i played 2 sessions of HP and i love it <3 im impressed how well it's done. Thanks for incredible job!

Thank you, so much.

Hi, can I please contact you?

Yes, of course. There’s an email link on my profile page.

are you planning on penning a pdf covering the creatures from the fantastical beasts movies?

I doubt I’ll get round to that, but if anybody wants to produce one, they’d have my support. There are still elements of the HP world I want to address better, but just don’t have the time. I’ve been working on an scenario for several years that would include rules expansions,  but other projects keep getting in the way. THPRPG is a Labour of love, so revenue generating projects tend to take precedence.

Hi! I love that this exists! Thinking of GM:ing a campaign but I'm wondering if there are any ready made campaigns available? First time GM so would love to use a ready made adventure at first :)

I did start working on a scenario, but got a bit sidetracked. I will get back to it at some point. I ran the adventure and it went very well, but putting it all down on paper turned into a bit of a slog. I’ve posted some screenshots on Twitter. If you do end up running an adventure I’d love to hear about it.

My friend Neil, thank you for the wonderful digitization of Rowling's world. This work turned out to be unbearable even for professional game publishers.

And precisely because I liked this job, I can't close my eyes to some disadvantages. And I'm not talking about the upcoming additions on artifacts and familiars (their absence is not such a problem). And it's not that there are no inserts with the history of Hogwarts and the Ministry (everyone knows this from books). The matter is different:

1) There is no characteristic digitizing the friendliness or talkativeness of the character. (In DnD systems it is charisma, in DH it is sociability, in WoD it is manipulation). It is important for social throws to determine what effect the character's actions had on the NPCs.

For the world of Potteriana, "Compassion" would be suitable. This is the very characteristic that brought Harry Potter closer to his friends and what Tom Riddle was completely deprived of (which, by the way, can explain Tom's failure in the selection of supporters and, as a result, defeat).

2) There is no opportunity to play as a child of a magician and a magical creature (Half-breed), for example, a half-giant (Like Hagrid) or a half-goblin (Flitwick). Of the weirder ones , we can recall the half - veela (Delacour). We need to think through the mechanics of special traits for these creatures and their children. (For example, witchcraft without a wand).

3) How are things with Lycanthropy? Are there mechanics for it?

4) Purebred families sometimes have a number of magical features that are inherited (for example, the language of snakes, ghost ancestors or contracts with brownies).

As well as diseases (for example, the hysteria of Gaunts or the quirks of Lovegoods). How will this be digitized?

5) There are no mechanics for divination and predictions. It would be useful for the master to be able to give players hints in this way.

6) There are gaps with magic herbs. So in book 4, Gillyweed played a significant role. We need to digitize those of them that had a magical effect.

7) There is no digitization for the cores of magic wands. In your game, it is not clear how the unicorn hair differs from the phoenix feather...

If you answer these questions, then your game will become much more complete and suitable for masters and players. Sincerely, your potential player.

Sweet!

Cool! Thanks for this release! Looking forward to reading through it after this semester is over and I am able to find the time!
