Managing remote teams works best when it’s built on trust, clarity and genuine connection 💙 Many of our teams work remotely or in a hybrid setup, but we’re just as intentional about creating moments to meet in person — to collaborate, exchange ideas, and strengthen the relationships behind the work. We have designed our ways of working so people can do their best work from wherever they are, while still feeling part of something bigger. That means clear goals and ownership over your work, as well as teams that stay connected across borders and time zones. When flexibility is done right, it creates great outcomes and room for real impact. And that’s exactly the kind of workplace we’re proud to build every day. Huge shoutout to our managers for knowing when a conversation is best in person and for leading with a real focus on people! #LifeAtCatawiki #RemoteWork #HybridWork #WaysOfWorking
I love managing remote teams. And I think they (can) work. But let’s not kid ourselves: nothing replaces being in the same room. Last week we brought the entire Interiors team together in Lisbon for our yearly Kick Off. For many, this is the only moment in the year they see their manager, and each other, in person. It is a crucial moment to drive strategy and direction. But more than that, it’s about connection. Hearing each other’s voices and ideas. Noticing what has and hasn’t landed. Sensing where we need more clarity, collaboration, or courage. This year, the energy was different. People leaned in, they collaborated openly, and people seemed to feel safer to be vulnerable about challenges. But even though the event is now over, this is where the work REALLY starts. Here’s a few things (and maybe open doors) I like to keep in mind when managing remote teams or coaching managers of remote teams: 1) Treat your general Slack channel like the coffee machine. Encourage “good mornings,” weekend wishes, random questions, fun facts. Yes, it can feel awkward, but I encourage you to push through it. Habits matter, and this is how you build familiarity without an agenda. 2) More meetings. More 1:1s. (Sorry.) I know it’s not cool to say anymore, and there's definitely a risk to it. But remote teams don’t get much face time, and questions don’t always surface in town halls or team meetings. Not everyone speaks up in groups, no matter how safe you think it is. 1:1s are where nuance, doubt, and real connection show up. They’re not optional. 3) Create cross-team task forces, and then disband them. Bring people together around shared priorities. Let them problem-solve beyond their role or silo. These don’t need to live forever, their value is in exposure, growth, and shared ownership. For me, remote leadership is about structure and humanity. And every now and then, if you can: get everyone in a room and remind them they’re part of something bigger.

Did you know that 40 years ago, Dragon Ball aired for the first time? 🇯🇵 Coinciding with the occasion, we’re proud to present our collaboration with the Japan-based Japanime Art Gallery, making previously hard to find pieces accessible to European buyers - direct from the source. Japanime Art Gallery curates these works with the aim of re-evaluating animation as a long-term cultural and artistic asset. Across dedicated auctions, more than 120 original anime production works, from hand-painted cels to studio sketches are offered exclusively on Catawiki. The collections span from Studio Ghibli, Dragon Ball Z to Sailor Moon and Naruto, and even includes an original drawing of Hayao Miyazaki's most ambitious and taxing projects: princess Mononoke estimated at 22-29k. 👉 Explore below: 🎨 Japanime x Catawiki auction (ending tonight!): https://lnkd.in/exDkV3ne 🎨 40 Years of Dragon Ball Collection: https://lnkd.in/ey2BsVDp #Art #StudioGhibli #Anime

One of the most powerful moments of our Advanced Manager Program was the graduation ceremony 🎓 Each graduate stepped on stage to share their leadership journey. The stories were honest, personal, and sometimes vulnerable. One leader spoke about letting go of having all the answers. Another about finding their voice. Each reflected on how their leadership had changed, and what that meant for their teams. "Moments like these show the kind of leadership culture we’re building at Catawiki, and why we’re so proud of this group 👏 #LeadershipStories #PeopleDevelopment #LifeAtCatawiki

Collectors, take note 🚋 For the first time on Catawiki, a complete tram is in auction! This is a rare 90 year old Type T2 tram, originally numbered 212, which served for many years as a regular passenger transport in Amsterdam. After active service, it became part of a collection at the Public Transport Museum before ultimately being on display at a Bed & Breakfast in Hoogwoud, where it stood alongside other unusual vehicles. “For rail history enthusiasts, this is an extraordinary opportunity. Normally, you would only encounter this type of tram in a museum. A tram has never been auctioned on Catawiki before, and the fact that one is now up for sale is exceptional and likely a one-off. The tram’s preserved condition, combined with its remarkable history—from Germany via Amsterdam to Hoogwoud—makes it an outstanding collector’s item.” says Christophe Hendriks Franssen, Model Train Expert at Catawiki. ✨ Meet Vinicius Bernardi Vieira, Engineering Manager in our Lisbon tech hub. With nearly 20 years of experience in tech, Vini brings a people-first approach to engineering leadership. From Brazil to Portugal, his journey led him to join Catawiki in 2025, where he now leads a cross-functional group of backend, frontend, iOS, and Android engineers working on one of our most impactful domains: Shipping. The team’s focus is clear: making the buyer journey more transparent from purchase to delivery, while tackling complex challenges step by step. For Vini, strong engineering outcomes start with trust, ownership, and collaboration, and with creating the conditions for people to grow in their roles. What stood out to him about Catawiki was the strength of the engineering mindset across teams, the high level of trust and ownership, and the freedom to experiment, learn fast, and continuously improve. From Lisbon, Vini is helping grow our tech hub not just by scaling teams, but by strengthening culture and collaboration across Europe, including close ties with our Amsterdam headquarters. 🔗 Read Vini’s full story: https://lnkd.in/e6sd2KiN 🚀 Curious to work with leaders like Vini? Wondering how to beat blue Monday? Enter the newest trend: Dopamine Interiors, a mood-boosting mix of colour, texture and playful form that’s moved from social feeds into real homes. ☀️ Minimalism is out. Emotion is in. Searches for minimalism on Catawiki have dropped by 70%, showing a clear shift toward spaces designed to spark feeling rather than follow strict rules. To bring this to your own home, Catawiki experts suggest: 🔹 Starting small: statement objects, big impacts 🔹 Avoid the overcrowded feel: 60% base colour, 30% secondary tone, 10% accent 🔹 Think multisensory: texture and light matter “Dopamine interiors borrow the playful colour-blocking and asymmetry of the 1980s Memphis Group, the futuristic plastic curves of 1960s space age design, and the shine, symmetry and glamour of 1920s Art Deco. What we see now is a remix of sorts: vivid, feel-good design that feels nostalgic and refreshingly new at the same time.” explains Annick van Itallie, interiors expert at Catawiki. 👉 Check out the Dopamine Interiors Collection: https://lnkd.in/efgTXfCQ 👉 Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eVwbGFmu

Leadership development doesn’t happen by accident. At Catawiki, our Advanced Manager Program is a year-long leadership journey built around six modules. Each module brings managers from across the business together to work on real leadership challenges, from understanding their own leadership style to leading teams through change. The program is designed to combine learning, practice, and reflection throughout the year. This is how it looks like in practice 👇 - Self-learning to build strong foundations followed up with group learning with peers across the business - Role plays, feedback, and stepping outside comfort zones in the sessions and then putting learning directly into practice between modules - Coaching and mentoring moments throughout the year - A mix of internal and external facilitators bringing different perspectives This structure ensures leadership development is not theoretical, but practical — something that shows up in everyday conversations, decisions, and team dynamics. Because investing in people, and how they lead, truly matters to us 💙 #LeadershipDevelopment #LifeAtCatawiki

Starting this year off strong, our very own Stefano Baccianella, VP of Engineering at Catawiki, sat down with Exec Engineering, a series featuring seasoned tech and engineering leaders on talent, culture, and leadership, to discuss engineering leadership at scale, from building resilient teams to fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement. In the conversation, Stefano shares insights on: - How AI is showing up in engineering teams as a productivity enabler - Why team-level ownership is more effective than individual ownership - How blameless post-mortems help strengthen learning cultures A thoughtful read for anyone interested in how strong technical cultures are built in practice. If this resonates with you, we’re growing our tech teams and have several roles open. If you’re excited about ownership, learning cultures, and building at scale, we’d love to hear from you. 👉Check out our Career Page to learn more about opportunities with Catawiki: https://lnkd.in/eNJVMWHy 👉Read the full interview below: https://lnkd.in/ej_CEVGn
