This visual novel has definitely become my number one! I love the story and the routes. I got so emotional during Alon's route because of the events that really happen. I can't wait to see what happens next!

wow, I thought the story was over years ago. It may not have been finished but I thought I reached the end of the story regarding the saint Barnard dog. And I just checked, my last savefile is from February 2022. And I just learned that the story has had regular updates ever since. And only because I recently checked back to "demons within" which I also kinda forgot for 2 years and you guys are doing an on going collaboration?
I am so behind....

The song "Hero - Skillet" is a perfect fits for Rune. With the near last chorus into the last chorus being Rune awakening his ember.
Then "Pheonix - Fall Out Boy" is Zerek (I got his name right. Right? Alon's mentor, Mr. Rat)

I played this game in 2024 and it was my first visual novel and I thought visual novels were all nice sunshine and rainbows and I got the harshest reality check.

The talk with Alon and Rune in the dark, their sprite and all. Look soooo fitting for a horror theme. Especially when Rune pulls Alon down and his eyes is wide open, looking as if it were hollow and he's staring at our soul. Then Max come up with his eyes closed, jesus that's so unsettling :)).
I love this VN! An interesting canon of the mana universe, a lost civilization, and also delicious main characters. I am a xenophile 👍
My fav is Burry(appearance and character) and Run(more appearance than character).
minor spoilers
has lots of game and lots of goon. takes about 5 hours of reading time for each route, but i think some routes are still wip. the first half is light hearted and calm, and the second half is tense and heavy. theres a surprising amount of content for the characters. the game over scenes with alon e wolf is such a good feature, it think its my favorite part of the game. theres a lot of times where the game reflects on your actions, which i felt on a personally. ive been reflecting on lots of things irl lately so i felt i read this vn at a good time. i really like the themes transitioning into the second half. its something that other vns dont touch on. like if i did get isekaid into a hot sexy gay furry world, i probably would be all on my own. author did a great job writing that. the music is also good too, not as perfect as lyre but itll make you feel something. art is also good, thistles and alon e wolfs character designs are pretty drippy if im being honest. the world building is up there too; i think theres a lot of potential for future games if the author decides to go down that road. the power system is good too, a little basic but basic isnt bad. it could use some clarity in some parts but its overall easy to grasp.
i give the game a 9/10 and the goon a 10/10. alon e wolf is obviously mvp. niceu!
So, I'm kinda new to this vn, but I really like it! It's very well put together and the characters are extremely likeable.
Question about Rune: is he a "love interest"? I ask because I got that vibe from his character.
Also, is there a good and bad ending to the Rune route or is it patreon exclusive? I keep playing through it and choosing different choice variations, but I always fail.
I'm really enjoying this game, the only complaint is there are only 6 save slots
if you need more save slots you will need to get into barkest corner. and for every one you get into, will get an extra 3 save slots.
from what I remember, you can enter it by either die or end a route. it is basically where you meet alon and talk with him
So... the fifth howl is gonna be about Cooper?
most think that he will be the fifth route..... the scary part that no one knows for sure
Spoilers and a question
With alon routes it says "oh once you do this you cant go back so make sure youve seen everything before" this does mean that once i do this i cant access any of my pasts saves ever again or replay the game once i finish the route?
you are mostly correct, once you agree you will no longer be able to enter any of your saves in a certain point. so yeah if there is any dream you want to see or by ANYTHING do it, and then you can continue. (although I think you will still be able to go through the gallery)
once I’m done with the route though do I get to go back?
yeah but in some way, if I tell you that would be a spoiler. but yeah if you finished the route you can go back. but I don't know if you can in version 47 because in 48 you can.

Wow… I’m very impressed. This novel is peak, the story, the art, the music. The music isn’t super memorable, but it fits the story really well. I’ve never seen a novel that integrates action scenes this well, you can really feel the emotion. I really want to see how it ends.
But… there are some things that left me with questions (v0.47):
I only saw feminine pronouns once in the novel, and it was when referring to Mother Earth, who is kind of like a goddess. Even all background characters are male. Is there a reason for the absence of female characters? Maybe something similar to Soulcreek, with a virus that reduced the female population in this case? If there are no women, how are they born? I know it’s an MLM novel, but… you know, I expected at least some lore behind it.
Now I’m thinking, if there aren’t women, then there aren’t hybrids either. Maybe they’re just born from Mother Earth… well, that’s just my theory.
When I saw Rune’s jerk-off scene and his explanation, I thought sex would be related to mana (the power system of the novel), something like In Finite Space (where emotional bonds enhance the Aegis, and sex can reduce its damage, simple explanation, but still something).
But no, the rest is just sex. I’m not complaining, I like it (top and bottom Rune are my favorites), and I read this kind of story for that too, but again, some lore would help, because as it is now, it feels more like a porn novel.
Every main character’s route (Max, Burry, and Rune) has some kind of emotional bond with Luke… but what about Alon? In his route, he just says he finds Luke extremely hot… is that it? I hope the novel explores Alon’s feelings more deeply in future updates, because he’s one of my favorite characters.
At the moment, every character just accepts the current state of the world as it is. Nobody really questions it (like where humans came from, what those ruins are, or what the relics actually do). Burry used to be focused on seeking knowledge, but it feels like he just dropped that part of himself.
What I’m trying to say is that there isn’t much buildup around the mystery of the world. Are we going to get a lore dump in future updates?
The whole cycle of rebirth is touched on in the magic crash course in Alon's route, which also has hints of a past connection between Luke and Alon, so maaybe play that route again to see if you can answer your own questions on the reread.
And v47 does mark the end of Alon's route...hence the quite drastic menu changes upon completion.
And...everyone in Shelter is focused on preserving their freedom, and everyone else is too focused on cross-species conflict to care. That is, if they even know humans exist, let alone what they really are.
For most, I imagine they just take it for granted. For them, this is how the world has always been. If they dig, they're only met with insanity, when they're missing the key component to seeing the Truth.
Burry's whole arc was learning to do things for himself...he never wanted the knowledge, he just wanted to make his superiors proud-- then subsequently, to bring his brothers back. Why would he want to look back at this point when he has everything he ever wanted?
But above all, and this is established pretty early on in all routes, most canines are, by nature, dumb (and horny but that's besides the point). It's only through absorbing human mana that they could begin to have these complex thought processes that might lead them to any sort of conclusion for these big questions....yknow, if it didn't drive them mad whenever they tried to use it.
I think the only character we've seen even interested in finding out the history of their world is Alon, but, being who he is, he's definitely an exception.
Also, respectfully disagree on the music thing. Sic 'em, Freedom, and White Wolf are all playlist worthy imo.
Oh yeah, I already replayed Alon’s route. English isn’t my native language, so there were some things that escaped me the first time I read it, but I still didn’t notice anything too major.
Aside from Luke, ever since the Third Howl I expected that he knew them in certain timelines or past lives, because he says he has lived for thousands of years. He also said Alon was important to him, but that he traded his memories of him for the power of Ablaze. At the same time, Moon seems to have met one of Alon’s past lives too, based on what Doom Moon says when he sees puppy Alon: “I forgive you.” That made me expect that Alon’s past self and Moon had some kind of connection at some point, but with Luke... isn't totally clear for me.
I know the dogs are dumb, but that doesn’t mean they can’t be curious, those things aren’t mutually exclusive. Aside from Luke and the Observer (and Alon, who learns things from Luke’s other timelines after tasting his blood), there doesn’t seem to be anyone else interested in the world itself. Like you said, they’re more focused on their own problems than on bigger questions.
I just don’t want everything in one big info dump explaining the whole world (but I also don’t want a vague ending like Soulcreek, where many things stay a mystery), especially since there’s only one Howl left: the final Fifth Howl. At the very least, I’d like complementary side stories that expand the lore a bit. Like the crossover with "Demons Within", in chapter two Cooper saying he is Mother Earth’s shepherd, which I found funny because “shepherd” translates to pastor in Spanish, and pastor can also mean a religious leader.
And about the music, I know there are some tracks that are really good. "Sic ’Em" and "White Wolf " definitely have a place in my playlist. I just meant that most of the soundtrack works very well in context, but it isn’t the kind of music that gets stuck in your head.

Was it ever stated that Luke's lived for thousands of years? I don't remember reading that during Luke's ablaze scene...
But, to my knowledge, there's no indication that he was created differently than the other humans. My best guess to how he was acting during his Ablaze is that humans can gain access to the memories of their past lives once they become adept enough at burning their mana. After all, if they can see the future, why not the past?
So, yeah. As far as we know, Luke and Alon only share history with each other in this life. (I mean. Alon knows pretty much everyone, but that's besides the point)
I'm sure some more scholarly dogs have been curious about it, but that's not really going anywhere without the complex thought to back it up-- as well as all the pieces (i.e. human mana, which is exceedingly rare). Shelter's leaders have their own reasons for not digging into it, and the Canine country is under the Observer's rule, who is unlikely to want his dogs looking into history to make them easier to control.
We don't know about the other races, and I doubt we ever will in this game.
Ooh, lore tidbits in the crossover, ey? I gotta catch up on those 👀
And Cooper lore in particular?? He's the one boi (on the game's banner) we haven't reached yet!! Wonder how important Shepherds are to this world...
⚠️SPOILERS⚠️
Let's start with the short part: Cooper. In the crossover with "Demons Within", Thistle talks about Cooper with Resnick. Later, Cooper pulls out what looks like a bible or religious book and starts talking about Mother Earth, but since it's Resnick's POV, he gets lost in his own thoughts and stops listening. By the way, you need to play the first chapter of "Demons Within" to get the code for chapter two.
Now, the dream scene between "Luke?" and "Max?" is weird, but there's this line that stands out:
He seems to at least remember his life before the world broke. And since Luke can loop through time, what feels like a couple of years for the dogs could be hundreds of years for him, kind of like what the Observer tells Gunner after Alon's vision:
So when Luke says "a thousand years", it's genuinely unclear whether that's an expression, literal, or just his skewed perception of time.
There's also Alon's theory that humans shatter when they overuse their powers. According to him, Luke has been unusually careful, and maybe that's exactly why he lost his memories: as a way to protect himself from breaking apart.
In Alon's route, when he describes his vision of a future Luke:
Luke never explicitly says he's thousands of years old, but the context makes it pretty clear he's been around longer than anyone else.
One last thing, the Observer recognizes Luke immediately and says:
And we're definitely not talking about his lion brother Sansun.
Fascinating....

I completely forgot the Observer's dialogue there, purely because a lot of his scenes aren't replayable 😭
I still don't think he's literally lived for thousands of years; he still grew up under the care of Tharros, and Alon mentions him appearing young when he first sees him. But if the Observer recognises him, that means that every time someone reincarnates as a human, they become the same one every time -- likely the one they lived thousands of years ago. So for now, I still subscribe to the theory that humans are able to gain back all their memories through Ablaze (a bit paradoxical considering Luke's Ablaze required burning his core life experiences, but he said himself that he forced it when he wasn't supposed to, so that seems to be an outlier)
And...it sounds like they knew each other? Or were at least acquainted (before the world shattered and, presumably, the World was born). It'd be most reasonable to leave it up to coincidence for now but...that is very interesting. Do they both have something binding the fragments of their soul together so they come back whole?
Either way, I'm hoping we get to meet this 'Dawn' at some point, seeing as she is their common link -- despite never being mentioned before by Luke >.> (I hope we meet any of his family really, past or current! but I'm getting off topic -w-)
Resnick is a gem, but him listening to the boring exposition would make these lore conversations a whole lot easier 😭
For the 4 answers, I think it probably dues to something like Information Hazard. Some knowledge are just blocked from the people's mind world wide, except for "Human". Practically as to why whenever others species use human's mana they just went mad.

(ME & Gurren Lagann in Rune's Route 😂)
Burry can cure his brothers, Rune can summon Moon, Alon has Dance with Wolves (Forget what it does) and Max has i dont remember, thats pretty coolKind of… but (SPOILERS):
Embers are basically manifestations of a character’s experiences, they represent who they are. If the person changes, the ember changes too (or maybe even disappears). Main characters' embers are also tied to their emotional bond with Luke.
He can summon his brothers' memories as an ice wolf pack. He wants to preserve their memory and somehow bring them back. His bond with Luke is that Luke gives him a new sense of purpose. Also, Luke helped him to find his brothers.
Through canine empathy, he projects Moon’s memories onto the person he sees as his savior (Luke). He wants to be saved, like a damsel in distress. His bond with Luke is pretty clear: Luke is his hero.
He doesn’t really have an offensive or defensive ember (honestly, I’m not even sure he has one), but his “power” is more supportive. He boosts and encourages others (when he used "primal palm" on Luke it triggered his mana vision for a moment). He just wants to keep everyone together. His bond with Luke is that Luke gave him a new life with friends.
He can move through shadows. It probably reflects his desire to be truly free and to stay hidden from the Observer. As long as the Observer exists, he’s never really free. His bond with Luke is still kinda unclear.
This also kinda ties into their final side sex scenes:
Makes sense why i didnt remember Max's, wasnt bombastic

Max doesn’t seem to have an ember in the first place. There’s even this line during the last battle in his route:
Primal Palm seems more like a physical technique than an ember. What Max really does is use music to encourage and support his allies.

I was gonna argue Rune is more of a barbarian, but he does literally call on the power of holy spirits for his Ember, so. Anyways,

And Alon don't just move in the shadow, but light as well. Alon's ember affects heavily by his master, first it can phase through wall, be here and there (which is Mr.Rat's ember), then it also slow and speed up times (which is Mr.Rat's Shelter technique) and lastly the ability to fly in the light (which is when Mr.Rat use the re-pounch from being in the earth combined with avian mana to speed away like a missle).
Can someone help after the alon scene in with the colossus I pulled the trigger and then the game went to the menu now i cant start the novel anymore the only options that appear are Preferences, Gallery or Quit is this a bug
in the version 46.6 this well be the stop point. Unless you have the higher version 47 which is right now only for the patreon subs.

Raus, you are literally my god. I just finished Alon’s route in the dead of night, and my mind is still completely blown. The story is just... insane, truly incredible. As of now, it is the undisputed #1 FVN in my heart. The direction, the plot, the BGM—everything is just god-tier.
May i ask for some help? I can’t get pat the part where the shelter turn off and monsters start to swarm in, i tried all i could but i just end up dying, its this how the game end?

There is this moment in the training sequence in Rune's route where he closes your eyes with his hands and asks you who is the dog that's talking to you
I fully expected for Rune to freak out if Luke says something like "Acri" out of the blue, but nothing happens, I guess Rune doesn't remember Acri either...

Only Max, Luteus and Alon can remember Acri because they have a Luke's Ablaze cristal... Also, the shelter somehow prevent (or at least slowdown) memories from scape.
Shelter is capable of preserving life experiences as a consequence of absorbing mana, because...that's what mana is. It has no effects on memories, other than on Skies Ablaze.
I think it was explained that because each shell has some of Luke's mana, that is why people can see memories from others' perspectives. (which is why he keeps getting flashes when he's on the roof, where mana particles aren't absorbed)

fr yall I'd HIGHLY recommend getting the patreon ver. just for this update. It marks a HUGE turning point, and is 100% worth it. Seriously. If the mechanical resemblance to UNDERTALE wasn't clear enough before, it certainly is now. Really all I can say, but I have so many feelings about this update.
Considering the public update that just dropped, I somehow doubt it's what you were reacting to but it really enhances the experience

I am having a bit of an issue loading up my save game after i updated it
some had this problem before, so I think all you have to do is start from the start and skip to the last point you have reached
That's a bit of the thing, i can load it up to the last choice options before the baths but i am un able to skip the seen text i have read before.
You can enter preferences, then select unseen text for skip. This will make skip all the scene you haven't or the game thinks you didn't.
Sorry but I just finish max route and in the part when they have s*x it gives you two option, but one of them is block and say that sound would be in the game, is in this uptade that part or we would have to wait a little longer. Thaks, I love Shelter, good Jobs with the historie.

@Rausmutt, encountered a potential bug. *SPOILER RELATED*
The fanarts unlocked after completing to end of update, the NSFW pictures blur as intended in the main screen and per image when in censor dong mode, but in regular mode, it still censors when opening the image in full. Is this a bug, or the intended behaviour?
kind of weird that Alon skips a huge part of his barkstory on replays. like sure, everybody might vaguely remember the whole thing with the Observer, but they just won't understand the context for why the Observer is a scary threat right now. massive truth denial from Alon.
You can delete the files from the appdata and just restart it from scratch, I kinda had to do that because I'm very forgetful too haha

you can't chose the inspire option since raus didn't make it yet.
I understand, it's just a little frustrating that there are several places to choose it even though it is not accessible yet. like we're just missing one thing in order to do it.
