Leicester De Montfort Hall

05th November, 2017

Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys, plus long-term members Martin Cooper and Stuart Kershaw, provided an 18-song journey from Architecture And Morality through to their latest, The Punishment Of Luxury. Opener, the new Ghost Star, saw McCluskey front-centre, in a solitary spotlight, drawing in the crowd with his emotional singing. The tempo then increased on songs old and new, including Messages, Tesla Girls, Forever Live And Die, Souvenir, Joan Of Arc, the fan-voted New Stone Age, Locomotion and Sailing On The Seven Seas.

A majestic Joan Of Arc (Maid Of Orleans) saw the band visibly moved by the crowd reaction and, despite suffering with tonsillitis, McCluskey performed with boundless energy. Ending their 90 minutes with a mass singalong to Enola Gay, the three-song encore concluded with the apt Electricity.

Oriental). It’s a pity Quo’s biggest

Alabama Shakes

The song on which the Shakes’ second album hits its greatest moment is the lovely This Feeling: a truly laidback, soulful, longing and lazy-ass four-and-a-half minutes on which vocalist Brittany Howard under-sings atop a sighing and superbly delivered arrangement. The band provides a set of grooves and workouts that show the relatively w…
