I have just returned home after my
\nweekly browse around my local
\nindependent record store, Record
\nVillage, in Scunthorpe town centre. As
\non many previous occasions, I picked
\nup a small armful of CDs and a couple
\nof second-hand vinyl bargains.
\nHowever, today is different: the shop
\nnow features large wording
\nannouncing ‘Closing Down’. It is
\ngoing to continue as an internet-based
\nstore and I wish everyone connected
\nwith the venture well. It is a sad day
\nfor music lovers like myself. The
\nnumber of such shops were you can
\nfreely browse is being reduced almost
\nweekly. (As of March there will be
\nnone in my local area, if I do want to
\n‘browse’ I am driving 50-plus miles –,
\nhmm, looks like I’m not browsing!).<\/p>\n
\nRecord Village has been part of the
\nmusic scene in Scunthorpe for over
\nthirty years. I have always found them
\nto be helpful, knowledgeable and I
\ncannot count the number of artists I
\nhave been introduced to via RV. All of
\nwhich is impossible when shopping
\n‘virtually’, there is no personal touch
\nshopping online! I wish everyone
\nconnected with the new venture ‘all
\nthe best’. At the same time I also feel
\nlike I have lost a friend.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
