Many thanks for the Status Quo article in issue 412 – in particular the coverage of the Frantic Four reunion. Having attended three of these shows (one in Glasgow, two in Hammersmith), I’m sure I speak for fellow fans when I say that these were utterly enthralling nights with the four reunited original members in top form. Given the history, this was a reunion I thought I’d never witness!<\/p>\n
Also many thanks for the Quo discography in the same issue – I’ve been checking RC every month for one of these for a considerable time. Just some minor points re a few of the valuations:<\/p>\n
1: Vertigo QUO 31 (Fakin’ The Blues 7”, cancelled). As you state, there are approximately 25 in existence; I’d suggest that, at £450, this is vastly undervalued. In recent years four copies have sold on ebay for £1,971, £1,131, £2,551, and £1,420 (June 2011, May 2011, July 2006 and April 2006 respectively).<\/p>\n
2: Phonogram PRO BX1 (From The Makers Of (3-LP box set in bronze tin). This is considered one of the rarest Quo collectibles and, to the best of my knowledge, none have ever been sold on eBay. (It is rumoured that one was presented to Prince Charles prior to the Prince’s Trust gig at the then NEC in 1982). I may be incorrect but I would contend that it would fetch considerably more than the £300 stated.<\/p>\n
3: Phonogram DJ 005 (Roadhouse Blues\/Black Sabbath, Children Of The Grave – promo). Being the proud owner of one of these (100 are thought to exist), I was very interested in the value for this item. It was released by Vertigo to promote the release of Quo’s Piledriver and Sabbath’s Masters of Reality albums in 1972. The value in the Quo discography was £400, a reasonable estimate (though some recently changed hands for less). However, imagine my consternation when I turned to page 79 (28 pages later in the same issue) to discover that the value had fallen to £300 in the Sabbath discography!<\/p>\n
