Now new generations of minstrels are transcending the pain in other ways, by turning to the cosmos, to mysticism and beyond. Indeed, Maine troupe, Village Of Spaces, appear to draw from the supernatural writings of Shirley Jackson and Barbara Comyns in weaving their magical defence of personal and environmental idylls, using pastoral motifs and quilted intimacies as a launching pad for an illusory, but nonetheless cherished, independence. <\/p>\n
It’s interesting to note the contributions of neighbours and peers, Big Blood, here. Both groups share, along with the likes of In Gowan Ring and Amps For Christ, an ability to adopt the mantles of custom and ritual before propelling them toward the stars – or at least a prefab haven where the downtrodden can endure (much like those unrealities conjured by the heroines of The Vet’s Daughter <\/i>and We Have Always Lived In The Castle<\/i>).
